Hudson Valley Community College Program Assistant Student Outreach and Retention HV-CS-9715 in Troy, New York

RESIDENCY REQUIREMENTS: Candidates must have been legal residents of New York State for at least FOUR months immediately preceding the date of the test. Pursuant to subdivision 4a of Sec. 23 of the Civil Service Law, preference may be given to successful candidates who have been legal residents of the municipality to which the appointment is to be made for at least FOUR months preceding the date of the written test.

This is a provisional appointment. Selected candidate will need to sit, pass and be eligible on the next available Rensselaer County Civil Service Exam for Program Assistant Academics II in order to be considered for permanent appointment.

In order to be considered an applicant for this position you must meet the minimum qualifications as stated in this announcement. HVCC does not sponsor Visas. Applicants must currently hold an unrestricted employment authorization to work in the United States and appointment will be contingent upon completion of a background check.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Associate’s degree from a regionally accredited or NYS accredited college or High School diploma or possession of a High School Equivalency Diploma and two years of working clerical experience in a position involving public contact or customer service functions in a non-retail setting (OR) An equivalent combination of training and experience as defined by the limits above.

DUTIES AND/OR RESPONSIBILITIES: The Program Assistant, SOAR - Student Outreach, and Retention will report to the Associate Dean of Academic Advisement and Retention or designee and perform the following duties:

• Under direct supervision of the Associate Dean provides basic clerical support for the students, staff and administration of the administrative unit; this position involves performing clerical duties as assigned.

• Answers telephone and e-mails and directs inquiry to appropriate party.

• Provides basic information in response to inquiries concerning unit programs and processes.

• Makes appointments with advisors for students and staff seeking assistance.

• Produces and scans photocopies for unit staff.

• Assists the Associate Dean with departmental forms such as timesheets, travel authorizations, etc.

• Attends departmental and College meetings.

• Orders supplies and submits work orders.

• Maintains files, both physical and electronic.

• Assists the Associate Dean in program reviews and assessment activities.

• Utilizes MS Office or other standard software to produce correspondence, materials and unit documents.

• Other duties may be assigned.

Position(s) are full-time 40-hours, with an hourly rate of $22.50.
