AECOM is actively seeking a creative, highly talented Tunnel Design Engineer for full-time employment which can be based out of any of our offices across Canada (preference would be Greater Toronto Area).
The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:
Organize independently work plans and design activities for projects of medium/high complexity
Use commercial finite element / finite difference numerical modelling software for soil-structure interaction analyses. Knowledge in commercial software like Dynamo or Grasshopper to create parametric models and computational design tools will be an added advantage
Autonomously generate and verify excel sheets for structural and geotechnical verifications
Provide to multidisciplinary teams clear knowledge and expertise of the basic principles of soil and rock mechanics and ground-structure interactions
Participate in team work contributing with specific geotechnical and structural expertise on underground components of Transportation and Water Conveyance projects
Support tunnels proposals with technical inputs, including methodologies and techniques
Design of tunnels in both TBM and SEM (Sequential Excavation Methods)
Design of SOE (support of excavation) systems of shafts, pump stations, cut and cover boxes, etc.
Participate to constructability review, risk management plans, value engineering sessions
Contribute to preparation of contract documents, technical specifications, design report and drawing
Liaise with other disciplines, professionals, clients
Qualifications
Minimum Requirements :
Bachelor’s degree + 4 years or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education
Ability to obtain P.Eng in ON and in BC within one year from starting of employment
Preferred Qualifications :
Degree in Civil, Geotechnical or Structural Engineering with experience in tunnelling and underground engineering or Master’s Degree in structural or geotechnical engineering is preferred
5+ years’ experience in foundations, underground structures, tunnels, trenchless structures, etc.
Experience with both large diameter (5m +) and trenchless tunneling method is preferred
Technical experience in different tunnelling methods, shaft design and ground improvement, SEM tunneling , TBM tunneling
Knowledge of Geotechnical, Hydro-geology, Geological engineering and Rock mechanics
Knowledge of analytical and numerical analysis methods for underground works and tunnels
Ability to work with minimal supervision
Excellent analytical, problem-solving and decision-making skills applied to design activities
Excellent oral and written skills as well as interpersonal/teamwork skills
Additional Information
Sponsorship for Canadian employment authorization is not available for this position.
Offered compensation will be based on location and individual qualifications. The expected range is $80,000.00 - $130,000.00.
