House of Blues Platform Engineer, 12 Month Contract in Toronto, Ontario

Job Summary:

JOB DESCRIPTION – PLATFORM ENGINEER

Location: Toronto, ON or East Coast of Canada

Division: Universe

Line Manager: Lead Platform Engineer/Senior Data Engineer

Contract Terms: Fixed-term (1-year), Full-time (37.5 hours per week)

THE TEAM

Universe is a leader in online ticketing for virtual & in-person events. We’re growing fast due to innovations in virtual events and timed-entry ticketing. We solve for large complexity and load, serving some of the biggest names in live entertainment (e.g., Dua Lipa, Metallica, Garth Brooks, Meghan Thee Stallion to name a few) and operating in over 15 countries.

We were acquired by Ticketmaster in 2015 which accelerated our growth. With a global team over 30 strong, Universe operates independently with our own roadmap and modern tech stack (including Kubernetes, ArgoCD, and more) and the financial backing of a Fortune 500 company. THE JOB

As Platform Engineer focusing on data-platform at Universe, you will apply your passion for technology and live events in our quest to build a world-class Event Ticketing platform. In this deeply technical and business-minded position, you will report directly to the Senior Data Engineer, and help push forward development of our data-platform operations. You’ll be challenged with technically rewarding tasks such as expanding our usage of Kubernetes, training our colleges on the use of cloud-native technologies, and implementing and monitoring components of our new data platform!

WHAT YOU WILL BE DOING

  • Maintaining our Kubernetes-based environment infrastructure

  • Improving our security posture through hardening and education

  • Improving our data-platform metrics and dashboards

  • Working with data-platform engineering to optimize contributions from the wider engineering organization.

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW (or TECHNICAL SKILLS)

  • Experience with streaming technologies like Apache Kafka, Apache Flink, and Debezium

  • Experience with Kubernetes and Docker

  • Experience with DevOps methodologies

  • Experience with Python, Go or Java

  • Experience with databases like PostgreSQL, MongoDB, and Clickhouse

  • You are an independent, fast-learning, self-starter who takes ownership over solving hard problems

  • You’re a hacker at heart who lovingly crafts elegant solutions with pride

  • You’re energetic, passionate, and driven
