We are seeking a collaborative, organized, and results focused Design Manager to join our operation, leading the Design Office in Toronto. This role encompasses a wide range of responsibilities supporting the acquisition and installation of sets and physical production elements for all network and regional productions. In this role, the manager provides a high level of design expertise, with extensive understanding of CBC procurement, creative and operational processes to manage internal and external projects.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Consults with production partners in News, Regions, Unscripted, Kids, Communications and Sports to evaluate scope, timing, budget and installation for project requirements.

  • Leads and provides support throughout contract processes with all independent design suppliers for quotations, contracting, transportation, storage and disposal, elevators, access, and egress from the Broadcast Centre. Works with Real Estate and BGIS to navigate internal resources.

  • Consults and negotiates with contractors to provide design and build services for all set design needs for English Services (EFS & News)/

  • Management of all production support spaces for TV, Radio and Digital studios, including wardrobe, hair & makeup facilities, production storage, spray booth, workshops, kitchens, freight elevators, and production offices.

  • Responsible for ensuring policies related to production workflows and health & safety standards and met. Communicates policies and best practices with in-house and independent production clients.

  • Working with CBC Studios Project Management, is responsible for the maintenance and oversight of all production support facilities in the TBC, including inventory management.. Determines and oversees procurement of assets. Understanding of CBC business policies is key.

  • Budgetary planning and reporting is required, including cost estimates for projects and forecasting. Manages production support budget.

  • Management of third party relationships and vendors.

Qualifications:

  • Strong communication and collaboration skills required for this role, along with the ability to lead projects in a deadline driven environment.

  • Excellent organizational and multitasking abilities are key.

  • Requires understanding of CBC Studios' operations and financial policies, with some contract management and procurement experience.

  • Knowledge of set design, installation and crewing requirements required.

  • Understanding of Sustainable production practices in order to meet our goals towards carbon reduction in studio.

  • Bachelor's degree in a related field or equivalent experience.

  • Previous experience in operations coordination or a similar role.

  • Knowledge of ScheduAll, Google suite, SAP, Autocad, Adobe suite and other administrative and design softwares considered an asset.

  • Bilingualism is considered an asset.
