ProMedica Health System Director of Pharmacy Infusion Services - Pharmacy Admin - Full Time - Days in Toledo, Ohio

ProMedica Toledo Hospital is one of the largest acute-care facilities in the region. REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS/SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

The Director of Pharmacy Infusion Services will oversee all aspects of pharmacy infusion operations across the system, including all pharmacy infusion sites and home infusion services. The position supervises a team of pharmacists, technicians, and leaders, ensuring performance excellence and compliance with all applicable regulations and standards. Direct Reports: Leaders and staff responsible for ambulatory pharmacy and hospital-based infusion operations.

POSITION SUMMARY

Reporting to the Chief Pharmacy Officer, the Director of Pharmacy Infusion Services is responsible for overseeing and managing pharmacy infusion services across ProMedica. The role involves strategic planning, operational management, collaboration with system leaders, referral sources, and other stakeholders. This includes optimizing financial performance, ensuring compliance, and leading continuous improvements to achieve high-quality outcomes and business growth.

ACCOUNTABILITIES

  1. Development and Management of Department or Program Across the Pharmacy Enterprise

• Serve as the subject matter expert for all pharmacy infusion-related matters, ensuring high standards of operational excellence.

• Provide oversight and strategic direction for the pharmacy infusion program, including coordination with the ProMedica 340B Manager to optimize financial performance.

• Collaborate with leaders across departments to ensure program integrity and maintain compliance with regulatory requirements.

• Develop and maintain both internal and external partnerships to support the success of the ambulatory pharmacy infusion program.

• Present key program data through dashboards and reports, tracking metrics related to financial performance, inventory management, and compliance monitoring.

• Communicate critical questions, issues, or discrepancies to appropriate authorities to ensure timely resolution.

• Oversee program leadership, supervising key pharmacy leaders and staff while fostering a high-performance, results-driven culture.

  1. Financial Management and Budgetary Oversight

• Develop, manage, and monitor operating and capital budgets for pharmacy infusion services.

• Analyze financial data and program performance to ensure budget adherence, providing informed decision-making for strategic financial initiatives.

• Investigate budget variances and implement corrective actions as necessary.

• Lead initiatives to drive revenue growth, optimize costs, and improve financial performance.

• Ensure accurate and timely processing of invoices and other financial documents related to infusion pharmacy operations.

• Monitor and manage workload and productivity reports to meet key financial targets.

  1. Management Responsibilities as a Senior Leader

• Act as Pharmacist-In-Charge for designated areas, maintaining compliance with USP 797/800 standards.

• Lead and inspire a team of pharmacists, pharmacy technicians, and support staff, providing mentorship, coaching, and performance feedback.

• Drive recruitment, selection, and retention of top pharmacy talent, ensuring sufficient staffing and appropriate skill sets to meet patient care needs.

• Develop and implement standardized policies, procedures, and best practices to support efficient and effective business operations.

• Encourage continuous improvement and innovation, driving performance and productivity across all pharmacy operations.

• Execute organizational priorities to ensure high-value performance in ambulatory infusion services.

• Provide transformational leadership, ensuring team integration, alignment, and success across pharmacy programs.

  1. Job-Specific Accountabilities

• Oversee and manage core ambulatory and hospital-based pharmacy infusion operations, including inventory management, procurement, and data analytics.

• Lead cross-functional projects and initiatives spanning multiple pharmacy, hospital, and clinic business lines, ensuring successful implementation and alignment with system goals.

• Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations and organizational and accreditation standards.

• Collaborate closely with system pharmacy leaders to optimize infusion pharmacy business programs and achieve operational goals.

• Provide leadership in developing and implementing new business opportunities and technology enhancements to support service excellence.

  1. Development and Execution of Department and Organization Strategies, Goals, and Business Objectives

• Align pharmacy infusion services with ProMedica’s strategic goals, focusing on quality, safety, compliance, and financial performance.

• Develop and execute strategic plans to drive growth, operational excellence, and departmental success.

• Participate in and lead interdisciplinary committees, contributing to organization-wide strategic planning and quality improvement initiatives.

• Implement data-driven strategies to enhance outcomes, increase efficiencies, and promote innovation across the pharmacy enterprise.

• Collaborate with key stakeholders to ensure smooth integration and coordination between ambulatory and acute care pharmacy services.

• Execute additional responsibilities to support the pharmacy department's and organization's needs and goals.

• Maintain flexibility in adapting to new initiatives and unforeseen challenges, contributing to a culture of continuous growth and improvement.

Education: Baccalaureate degree or PharmD from an accredited School of Pharmacy

Skills: Experience in budget management, fiscal responsibility and quality improvement initiatives. Experience in clinical program development with a focus on performance optimization. Strong resource optimization and problem-solving skills. Proficiency in computer applications, particularly Microsoft Excel. Effective communication skills to engage and collaborate with healthcare professionals and stakeholders across various organizational levels. Ability to analyze complex data and situations to drive informed decisions. Strong financial acumen for budget management, performance monitoring, and implementation of cost-effective strategies.

Years of Experience: Minimum of three years of health-system experience in ambulatory pharmacy infusion services.

License: Eligible for licensure to practice pharmacy in the states of Ohio and Michigan

Certification: Willing to become Board Certified in Pharmacy Compounding Practices within 2 years of hire

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Master’s degree in pharmacy administration, healthcare administration, or business.

Skills: Project management and lean training

Years of Experience: Five to ten years of experience in health-system management or pharmacy infusion services

License: N/A

Certification: Pharmacy Board Certification in Pharmacy Compounding Practices

WORKING CONDITIONS

Personal Protective Equipment: As needed in clinical environments

Physical Demands: Prolonged periods of sitting, computer use, and attending meetings.

Environmental Conditions: Office and clinical settings with potential exposure to hospital noise and equipment.

Physical Demands: Regular travel across system locations for inspections, training and meetings.
