Amazon Sr. Program Manager, Transportation Methods in Tokyo, Japan

At Amazon Transportation, we are building a world-class last mile operation, significantly complimented by our brand new service, which works directly with independent contractors – called delivery partners – to make deliveries to our customers. With this new last mile delivery service (Amazon Flex), individuals can now be their own boss delivering Amazon packages. It is powered by a mobile app that works in concert with our advanced logistics systems that allows delivery partners to on board, schedule delivery times, guide them through their deliveries with in-app mapping and navigation, and more. The approach and technology are nothing short of disruptive, and promise to challenge traditional approaches, and change the way the industry operates.

We are continuing to build a high paced and lean Japan team to implement and expand our last mile capabilities across key segments of Japan Transportation business. Amazon is now looking to hire an experienced, passionate, dynamic, analytical, innovative, hands-on, and (most importantly) customer-obsessed program manager.

We are seeking a Sr. Program Manager, Transportation Methods in Japan to help establish Amazon Transportation’s last mile delivery as the preferred provider in this specific space in order to build our network of Delivery Partners to drive product utilization and service optimization within the Amazon Transportation world. Internally, this leader will work directly with functions that cut across the organization, including technology, transportation, operations and customer service, to drive a great customer experience for our program. This position will be responsible for building, defining, and executing the strategy for Amazon Flex incorporates different modes of transportation into their delivery model.

The successful candidate will be self-motivated, passionate, highly analytical and detail-oriented, possess superior interpersonal and communication skills, and be comfortable working independently to drive growth and change in a fast-paced environment. An extreme bias for action is an absolute must, and candidates must demonstrate a superior track record of delivering results.

Key job responsibilities

•Build the long term strategy for transportation methods used by Amazon Flex Japan

•Ensure a best-in-class customer experience by optimizing for consistent volume for each transportation method in every regions.

•Support a best-in-class delivery partner experience, including availability of offers

•Analyze key metrics such as capacity planning accuracy and implement initiatives to drive improvements including new technology developments

•Optimize and standardize process to introduce a new transportation method

•Create a long term strategy and take actions to develop the delivery capacity for each method of transportation with multiple stakeholders including Product, Technology, Marketing, Shipping & Delivery Services, Legal, PR, and Operations

•Lead and coordinate large, complicated projects with multiple stakeholders

Basic Qualifications

  • 5+ years of program or project management experience

  • Experience using data and metrics to determine and drive improvements

  • Experience owning program strategy, end to end delivery, and communicating results to senior leadership

  • Business level of English

Preferred Qualifications

  • 2+ years of driving process improvements experience

  • Master's degree, or MBA in business, operations, human resources, adult education, organizational development, instructional design or related field

  • Business level of Japanese

  • Excited about working in a diverse group and contributing to an inclusive culture
