Amazon is seeking a highly-intelligent and experienced public relations professional to support our rapidly growing and evolving regional content in Japan. Amazon Prime Video is changing the way people watch movies and TV shows. Our mission is to build the widest selection of digital video content and make it trivially easy for customers to enjoy wherever and whenever they want.
As a PR Specialist for Prime Video in Japan, you will imagine, co-develop and execute communications programs and publicity campaigns designed to support our growing local slate of Amazon Original series produced across Japan, along with our biggest award winning original and exclusive content. Based in Tokyo, you will primarily be responsible for driving publicity for Prime Video’s local content as well as leading events. You will be relied upon as an advisor to internal teams and will drive local campaigns taking into consideration cultural nuances for impactful media strategies. You will report into the Head of Prime Video Japan PR.
The successful candidate must have extraordinary high-judgment, excellent communications skills, exemplary writing ability, exceptional initiative, strong project management skills and a talent for effectively managing projects with complex communication challenges. The candidate should have experience working with high standards under tight deadlines and be flexible to manage ambiguity as priorities change.
Key job responsibilities
We expect you to
Co-develop and implement PR strategies and publicity campaigns for locally produced Amazon Originals (across unscripted and scripted), and the extensive movie and TV portfolio of Prime Video
Co-develop and implement concepts for premieres and other events relating to Prime Video, including interviews with talent, set visits and press junkets for original, exclusive and first run content
Close co-operation with fellow Prime Video PR associates worldwide as well as international colleagues from Amazon Studios
Work with stakeholders across many regions including content teams, marketing teams, social media teams and external PR agencies
Provide strategic recommendation to business stakeholders
Ensure consistency of company-wide communication, share worldwide best practices, and support impactful regional media strategies
Keep current on trends, issues and news about both the business and consumer worlds of media and entertainment
Build and maintain strong relationships with relevant media in the region
Conduct proactive and reactive media relations
Manage external public relations agency on several matters
PR subject matter expert for Japan
Basic Qualifications
7+ years of experience in public relations
Bachelor's degree in communications, public relations, or a related field
Native-level or equivalent Japanese communication skills
Excellent written English communication skills
Preferred Qualifications
Public relations experience in TV or film industry
Experience executing highly successful, creative and complex media campaigns and events
Excellent judgment, particularly in narrow timeframes
Experience managing a current network of media contacts
Demonstrated understanding of the consumer and media landscape in Japan
Excellent media relationships, experience managing agencies and the ability to deal effectively with talent, talent reps, journalists and other media influencers.
The ability to foster strong relationships with journalists (traditional and new media) - proactively pitching stories across all relevant media channels
A passion for pop culture and entertainment
Experience in crisis communication and shaping communication campaigns
Be able to manage multiple tasks simultaneously under deadline and thrive in a high energy, fast-paced environment
Ability to develop creative, effective strategies for difficult communications challenges
A love of entertainment and storytelling and the ability to build narratives and put together strategic communication plans across multiple time zones and functions
