In support of achieving excellence and business results through safe, reliable operations, our Compliance Internal Audit department is currently hiring for a Lead Auditor, General in the Audit section.

An integral part of the Quality organization, the Compliance Internal Audit department is responsible for ensuring that it promotes safe and efficient operation of Bruce Power’s business by conducting independent assessments on behalf of top management to confirm that the Bruce Power Management System (BPMS) meets the regulatory, legal, and statutory requirements and its effective implementation.

The Lead Auditor is responsible for performing internal audits (non-financial), to independently oversee the effective implementation of Bruce Power's Management System in accordance with the Power Operating Licence requirements. Responsibilities include directing, planning, organizing, performing, reporting and closing-out audits per established requirements and follow-up on effectiveness of corrective actions.

The Lead Auditor will develop audit plans, checklists, reports and supporting materials for the performance of audits, communicate progress and results for Senior Leadership, and will provide information upon which performance can be improved to ensure compliance with regulatory and licence requirements.

What will you be responsible for?

Direct audit teams and lead audits per the approved audit schedule. Audits are required to evaluate:

  • Compliance of Bruce Power's Management System with Operating Licence requirements

  • Bruce Power's implementation of its Management System

  • Compliance with and/or implementation of industry codes/standards such as (but not limited to), CSA N286, CSA/ASME Pressure Boundary requirements, ISO 14001, and CSA N288.4/5.

  • Provide leadership, instruction, advice, guidance, and clarification to the audit team for the duration of an assigned audit. During the conduct of the audit, the Lead Auditor will:

  • Conduct audit pre-job briefs for the audit team to ensure the safety of the team and that all potential hazards and facility access requirements are identified

  • Assign team tasks, monitor work performance, and provide feedback and redirection, as necessary

  • Ensure the validity, objectivity and factual content of observations made by the team

  • Ensure reasonable conclusions are made based on the evidence

  • Be responsible to establish and maintain integrity of the team's results

  • Communicate regularly with the Auditee/Client/Stakeholders throughout the audit to keep them informed of progress, preliminary findings, and any concerns

  • Communicate the audit results to Senior/Executive Leadership to enable appropriate corrective actions to ensure business success.

  • Monitor and evaluate effectiveness of corrective actions taken to address identified gaps.

Specific Responsibilities:

  • Identify risks to the management system and verify they are being managed

  • Discuss concerns regarding evaluation standards, objective, and scope of the audit, and where differences of opinion exist, influencing the organization to understand and accept the overall business need for the audit

  • On an assigned basis, evaluate the completion and effectiveness of corrective action plans

  • Verify the completion and adequacy of peer Lead Auditor activities for the conduct of audits

  • Evaluate performance of Auditors relative to qualification standards. Provide feedback, coaching and mentoring, as required, to improve performance

  • Lead technical specialists, consultants and contractors who are retained to support audits

  • Provide education, advice and coaching on Bruce Power's methods and standards for audit

  • Maintain an awareness of industry best practices and integrate them into Bruce Power audits and their accompanying reports to Senior Management

  • As required, provide business program support to the Audit Section by developing qualification standards, training materials, procedures and/or audit schedules

  • Identify areas of concern and provide feedback to Audit Manager for inclusion/consideration in the development of audit plans in related areas

  • Perform other duties as directed by the Section Manager, Audit

Education and Experience:

  • This knowledge is considered to be normally acquired through the completion of 4 years of university education

  • A period of over 8 years, up to and including 10 years is considered necessary to gain this experience

  • Requires knowledge of:

  • Audit methodologies, processes, practices, and business management processes to lead teams conducting various audits to ensure compliance with Bruce Power's management systems and operating licences

  • Auditing and audit management standards and practices to analyze issues from a business perspective and identify business implications

  • Strong communication skills to work with various levels of management, including executive members of the company

  • Excellent communication skills to convey audit results to auditees, audit clients and stakeholders so that they take appropriate action to ensure compliance with regulatory standards and management system requirements

  • Requires experience in:

  • An operating nuclear station, preferably in the area of operations, maintenance, nuclear safety, or engineering

  • Applying nuclear safety principles and their applications in a nuclear station and factor them into recommendations and accompanying reports to the executive members of the Bruce Power

  • Leading teams to conduct audits and introduce methodologies and practices

  • Assets:

  • Station experience is considered an asset
