JOB SUMMARY

:

Provides instruction in the curricular areas to students in the middle school.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Develops and implements programming associated with core curriculum and behavioral skills to be delivered in a classroom setting for assigned students.
  • Implements the district curriculum, standards and benchmarks. (This may include functional academic skills, communication skills, daily living skills, work skills, recreation/leisure skills and extended benchmarks for some assignments).
  • Assists in planning and delivery of social/emotional/behavioral school-wide programming.
  • Collaborates with the administration, school counselor, staff, parents and students on matters pertaining to academic achievement and social/emotional/behavioral goals.
  • Maintains appropriate records and protects the confidentiality of data. Maintains up-to-date knowledge of and ability to implement all facets of the IEP process.
  • Meets the 8 Iowa Teaching Standards and 43 criteria on a consistent basis.
  • Reports to work as scheduled on a regular and reliable basis.
  • Develops and maintains knowledge base of effective/promising practices pertaining to assigned students.
  • Other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION and or EXPERIENCE;

Bachelor's degree in Education K-8th required, special education endorsement: Strategist I or a Strategist II

Experience in classroom teaching 6-8 grades preferred.

Ability to effectively write reports and communications to students, colleagues, parents and staff. Ability to effectively present information orally and respond to questions from administrators, teachers, staff and students. Ability to assist students in the areas of language and literacy.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:

Ability to perform basic mathematical functions such as addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, percentages, decimals and fractions. Ability to assist students in implementing these mathematical concepts.

REASONING ABILITY:

Ability to solve problems effectively. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule form.
