Actalent Manufacturing Engineer in Three Rivers, Michigan

The Manufacturing Engineer will be responsible for a mix of manufacturing engineering duties and overseeing production during off-shifts. This role involves collaborating with leaders of manufacturing and production support to review performance on the manufacturing floor. The individual will also facilitate the planning, scheduling, setup, and running of manufacturing activities. They will manage the dispersal and distribution of materials and ensure labor and material requirements are met to adhere to daily schedules.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain manufacturing production processes by observing process volumes and recommending improvements.

  • Monitor progress, expedite material flow, and resolve work-related problems.

  • Improve manufacturing process workflow by eliminating stoppages, analyzing delays, and testing new methods.

  • Record manufacturing production details by completing daily shift reports and calculating yields and recoveries.

  • Ensure smooth process flow by communicating production status, requirements, and problems to the next shift.

  • Maintain a working relationship with the union by complying with the terms of the Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA).

  • Ensure a safe, secure, and healthy manufacturing environment by adhering to organizational standards, policies, and legal regulations.

  • Contribute to organizational success by overseeing manufacturing outcomes, selecting, orienting, training, and coaching associates.

  • Monitor and appraise job contributions, adhering to policies and procedures.

Essential Skills

  • Engineering Degree

  • 2+ years of engineering experience in an automotive manufacturing environment

  • General understanding of assembly or machining processes

  • Leadership or supervision experience

  • High level of interpersonal skills to work effectively with others

  • A strong inclination towards hands-on work on the manufacturing floor

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Experience working with a union (nice to have)

Work Environment

The Manufacturing Engineer will work primarily on the production floor (70%-80% of the time) involving activities like production support, root cause analysis, and disassembling products. The off-shifts include 2nd shift (2pm-10pm) and 3rd shift (10pm-6am), with a preference for one engineer on each shift. They may start work 30 minutes early or stay 30 minutes late for handoff. The team includes 3 other engineers, part of a larger team of 35 individuals. The role typically involves working 45 hours a week, with a slim chance of extending to 50 hours during busy periods. Employees will receive 10 days of PTO, 6 standard holidays, and access to Udemy after 6 months of employment. The Three Rivers location manufactures axles for large heavy-duty trucks for major automotive companies.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $31.25 - $40.87/hr.
