Job Title: Communications Technician II
Job Description
The Communications Technician II must be self-motivated, positive in approach, and professional, while helping to create, develop, and implement project process improvements. This role requires proven problem-solving skills, critical thinking skills, and the ability to effectively read, write, and give oral presentations. The candidate must be able to work at heights, off of a ladder, and in confined spaces, lift up to 50 pounds, and move up to 75 pounds. The ability to see and distinguish different colors, read small print, and hear and recognize audible signals such as dial tones is essential. A minimum of two years of experience in telecommunications or a related technical field is required, as well as the ability to supervise others. Proficiency with the listed tools and the ability to interpret blueprints and other project documents is also necessary. Knowledge of universal communications color codes is a must.
Responsibilities
Perform the technical responsibilities of a Cable Installer and function as a lead member of a technical team.
Coordinate small groups of installers in the performance of daily workload, ensuring adherence to safety and quality standards.
Install work area outlets for floor, modular furniture, and wall (terminate CAT 3 & CAT 5 jacks).
Mount face plates and surface mount boxes correctly.
Build closets (mount and install backboards, cross connects, racks, patch panels, fiber optic hardware).
Install grounding for racks, equipment, and cable as required.
Complete all IDC connections (e.g., terminate 110/66 blocks and patch panels).
Perform testing such as continuity tests on horizontal and riser cables, using a volt-ohmmeter, and troubleshooting opens, crosses, shorts, and transpose pairs on horizontal and riser cables using a tone set.
Identify active voice or data circuits.
Assume responsibility for the effective performance of the crew and provide necessary training; coordinate personnel and timeline to complete projects.
Adhere to and participate in all company, customer, and industry quality and safety standards and regulations.
Complete other responsibilities as assigned.
Promote the company culture and mission to all employees, vendors, clients, and business partners.
Act as the company liaison for interface with customer representatives.
Essential Skills
Minimum of two years of experience in telecommunications or related technical field.

Experience in building out IDF closets from start to finish.
Strong ability to pull cable through pathways, terminate, and test copper cables (Cat 5, Cat 6).
Experience pulling fiber cables.
Experience in closet build-outs, cable pulling (fiber and Cat 6), installing pathways, terminating Cat 6, fiber optic cable, and troubleshooting.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
BICSI Certification.
OSHA / Lift Certification.
Datacenter experience.

Work Environment
This role involves working in new construction environments, indoors with no HVAC. Work weeks are 50-60 hours, with some Saturdays required. Projects are located in commercial office buildings in Tempe and downtown Phoenix, bank call centers, parking garages, and a veterinarian clinic in Scottsdale.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Tempe, Arizona.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $23.00 - $30.00/hr.
