Fairleigh Dickinson University Clinical Assistant Professor & Fieldwork Coordinator, OTD Program in Teaneck, New Jersey

Job Summary:

The Clinical Assistant Professor and Fieldwork Coordinator of the Occupational Therapy Doctorate Program will work alongside the Program Director and OTD Faculty to assist in the continued development and long-term maintenance of its fieldwork education. This position will be responsible for the overall functioning of the fieldwork component of the OTD program and will assist in the ACOTE accreditation process as it pertains to fieldwork internships. The Clinical Assistant Professor and Fieldwork Coordinator will also be expected to teach in the OTD program. This is a twelve-month position.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES :

  1. Coordinate the tasks and associated responsibilities of the fieldwork component of the OTD program.

  2. Provide student advisement.

  3. Assist in the development of the student handbook for fieldwork practicum.

  4. Develop and maintain necessary forms for student, faculty, and internship supervisory documentation.

  5. Develop and maintain fieldwork placement sites.

  6. Instill policies relevant to fieldwork education instruction and the completion of necessary requirements.

  7. Initiate contact with fieldwork sites and maintain regular contact to foster a successfully continuous working relationship.

  8. Develop contracts with agencies and fieldwork supervisors.

  9. Develop and host trainings for fieldwork supervisors, students, and faculty.

  10. Provide consultation and coordinate resolution to students, faculty, and fieldwork supervisors when difficulties surface.

  11. Assist the Program Director in creating a system for regular evaluation of the fieldwork program’s efficacy and overall functionality to be used for accreditation and institutional effectiveness reporting.

  12. Work with the Program Director to manage the ongoing processes of accreditation, relevant to fieldwork education.

  13. Actively participate in meetings, trainings, seminars and other fieldwork-related activities to continually enhance the fieldwork education experience for students.

  14. Create assessment tools to be used for the evaluation of fieldwork agencies to assure quality.

  15. Attend and contribute to site visits for accreditation.

  16. Create and lead fieldwork education committee initiatives.

  17. Support tracking of individual student performance data in meeting accreditation requirements.

  18. Collaborate with the appropriate committees, faculty members, and administrators in developing coursework, experiential learning, assessment of student outcomes and identifying strategies for continuous quality improvement.

  19. Cultivate and maintain strong contacts with the community, local and national corporations, health care systems, school systems and professional associations to develop a strong network of OTD practice sites.

  20. Teach within the OTD program.

  21. Perform other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications:

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS :

  1. A doctoral degree in occupational therapy or related major awarded by an institution accredited by a USDE -recognized regional accrediting body.

  2. At least two years post clinical experience in the field of OT.

  3. Must be initially certified by NBCOT and be eligible for OT Licensure in New Jersey.

  4. Capacity to use computer technology systems current in higher education.

    PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS :

  5. Experience teaching within a graduate level OT program.

  6. Prior experience with OT fieldwork education.

  7. Strong community/national/international connections in the OT field.

  8. Evidence of leadership and innovation within the field of OT or a closely aligned discipline.

  9. Experience with the OT accreditation process, including a familiarity with the self-study process, submission guidelines and timelines for accreditation.

  10. Academic experience with skills and experience with instructional design and course development.

  11. Ability to handle multiple priorities; excellent organizational skills.

  12. Excellent oral and written communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to work effectively with faculty and university administration.

  13. Ability to develop and maintain effective and constructive collaborative relationships with faculty and administration throughout the University.

  14. Ability to work independently and as an effective team member.

  15. Employment is contingent upon a satisfactory background check. Candidates for hire will be required to sign a waiver authorizing the background check and produce a Social Security Card.
