JOB SUMMARY:
The Virtual Reality Engineer is a highly motivated and self-driven team player with the ability to perform in a cutting-edge prototyping environment. The preferred candidate must have strong programming skills, be able to work independently and as part of a team, and have a passion for working on and creating high quality immersive virtual reality experiences. The VR Engineer can design and develop software from requirements, lead root-cause analysis, communicate options for resolution and provide recommendations for software defects.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
Design, develop, integrate, test, and document virtual reality software for use in flight simulation training device
Design and implement procedural asset creation techniques to efficiently generate and modify 3D models, textures, and environments for immersive virtual reality experiences
Design and implement innovative solutions for optimizing performance and reducing latency of virtual reality software and hardware
Participate in engineering design reviews, hardware/software integration, stakeholder demonstrations, and acceptance testing events
Create and maintain documentation for virtual reality software and hardware solutions (e.g. Acceptance Test Procedures, Interface Control Documents, Technical Specifications, Work Flows)
Provide engineering staff with recommendations for software and hardware enhancements
Research and analyze data, such as customer design proposal, specifications, and manuals to determine feasibility of design or application
Collaborate with a team of talented engineers to create immersive and engaging virtual reality experiences
Stay up to date with the latest technology, tools, and techniques for virtual reality and beyond (e.g. Extended Reality (XR))
Stay current with regulatory requirements for flight simulation training device visual systems
Execute objective tests and analyze test results for the visual portion of the Qualification Test Guide
Outside of virtual reality the candidate will design, develop, integrate, test, and document visual interfaces for 3rd party image generators used on flight simulation training devices
Qualifications
EDUCATION/ EXPERIENCE:
Bachelor’s Degree required in Game Development, 3D Graphics, Computer Engineering, Software Engineering, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or Electronics Engineering
Minimum of 5 years of relative computer science/software engineering, or technical experience.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Proficiency in C , Linux OS, Git version control
Strong working knowledge of Unreal Engine 5 (UE)
Experience with Virtual Reality (VR) / Augmented Reality (AR) hardware devices such as headsets, controllers, tracking systems (e.g. Varjo, HoloLens, HTC Vive, Oculus)
Proficiency in debugging, optimization, and performance tuning for VR experiences
Deep understanding of 3D graphics & rendering pipelines, visual effects, modeling, shaders (HLSL/GLSL), texturing, and lighting for simulation environments
Demonstrated past performance of procedural asset creation techniques
Experience with following:
3D modeling using Blender
Version control of large file sets for 3D models, textures, environments
Integrating & testing Unreal Engine Geospatial Plug-ins (e.g. Cesium, ArcGis, Blackshark)
Working in a team environment to produce a game, simulation, video, or experience
Familiarity with physics simulations and real-time interactive systems a plus
Knowledge of aircraft and/or flight simulation industry experience a plus
Excellent verbal and written communication skills

Strong sense of accountability and integrity
Strong problem-solving skills
Ability to work in a dynamic environment
Ability to travel for up to 25% annually
