Valid driver’s license
Applicant must obtain Florida Fire Safety Inspector I Certification under the provision of Florida Statute 633 within one year of appointment.
Preferences:
Associate’s degree or higher from an accredited college or university.
Two (2) or more years of professional or paraprofessional experience in fire prevention, fire protection systems installations, or other construction inspection related experience
This position requires a security background check, including fingerprint as a condition of employment.
This position will be filled at the salary range of $44,060.16 to $47,750.00 annually.
Employees of the Department of Financial Services are paid on a monthly pay cycle.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS FOR THIS POSITION INCLUDE THE FOLLOWING REQUIRED ENTRY LEVEL KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Knowledge of the concepts, terminology, principles and analytical techniques of an engineering specialty area.
Knowledge of engineering design, construction, production and/or operations.
Skill in using engineering tools, equipment and/or instruments.
Ability to analyze and interpret engineering data.
Ability to solve problems relating to engineering.
Ability to perform technical engineering inspections.
Ability to apply engineering quantitative techniques.
Ability to plan, organizes, and coordinates work assignments.
Ability to communicate engineering information effectively verbally and in writing.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.
BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES:
Review construction documents of all new & existing state-owned and state-leased facilities within assigned region(s). Verify construction, site plans, architectural and engineering drawing documents comply with the Florida Fire Prevention Code as adopted by the state of Florida. Complete reviews within statutory time frames.
Research statutes, rules and adopted codes and standards as they pertain to submitted projects. Research, as above, for public, governmental and private code questions and concerns that are telephoned in or written for interpretation. Consult with architects, engineers, developers, contractors, (private & governmental) in the design development stages of their projects.
Prepares technical correspondence on all building plans, site inspections and any other fire protection projects. Responds to correspondence and telephone inquiries and maintains prescribed records and other material pertinent to the discharge of duties.
Attend seminars and training to maintain fire safety re certification requirement of 54 hours/4yrs. Staff the Emergency Operations Center in the event of any catastrophic disaster occurring in the state. Conduct code comparison studies. Perform light secretarial duties including but not limited to, filing, copying and faxing, inputting data into computers relating to plans review. Attends job related classes as required and recommended by the Department of Financial Services. Maintain, update and dispose of plan related records and documents as required.
When requested/assigned, assist with on-site inspections with field personnel on new construction projects and, from time to time, assist the field inspector on existing facilities to determine compliance with particular code concerns. In concert with inspection staff, assist in the evaluation of field changes, modifications and adjustment.
Assist in special project or assignments. Review technical documentation of the use of systems, methods, or devices of equivalent or superior quality, strength, fire resistance, durability and safety to determine assurance to acceptable fire protection engineering principles.
