To achieve this goal, the Hardware, Infrastructure Management, and Fundamentals Engineering (HIFE) team is instrumental in defining and delivering operational measures of success for hardware manufacturing, improving the planning process, quality, delivery, scale and sustainability related to Microsoft cloud hardware. We are looking for seasoned engineers with a dedicated passion for customer focused solutions, insight and industry knowledge to envision and implement future technical solutions that will manage and optimize the Cloud infrastructure.

Responsibilities

Development and Sustainability

  • Understands and develops test hardware or software to support the verification of product/usage model functionality. Collaborates with supply chain partners to develop and validate test strategy, product design and methodologies. Define and maintain core product test content and requirements. Develop test solutions for international repair service.

  • Monitor production yield data for test and product issues while implementing continuous test enhancements to ensure quality of product. Works with quality engineers on root cause remediation with regards to systemic hardware and software/firmware issues found during manufacturing tests.

  • Minimize test loops by using existing software and hardware tools to debug (and address other quality issues) before handoff to verification or system-level integration. Improves capability of products based on their understanding. Adjusts test utilization based on phase of projects with inputs from other functional teams such as quality or sourcing. Improves effectiveness and efficiency by removing non-value elements from product based on information gathered from process/test-system.

  • Understands how to architect test stations using generic building blocks that can be re-used in future test stations. Architect manufacturing test methodologies, develop test framework/content and deploy the test solutions in support of technologies and subsystems used in Microsoft products and system integration product development. Understands how and helps to develop future technologies/products.

  • Understands how to meet design specifications and business requirements within his or her area of responsibility by identifying and fixing bugs and avoiding issue re-occurrence. Develop plans to verify that systems (i.e., test system integration) are working as intended. Implement test cases and verification of whether the solution is meeting manufacturing key performance indicators (KPIs).

Monitoring Progress

  • Develop and maintain documentation on process and procedures within team and with its internal/external partners.

  • Understand how to develop appropriate test processes that define "What, Where, and How" to test. Helps to ensure adequate test coverage to prevent escapes. Use test equipment according to requirements and specifications provided by the factory. Measure test processes to maximize efficiency in daily tasks.

  • Understand and monitor configuration management capacity and capability constraints against forecast. Collaborate with manufacturing and sourcing teams to ensure continuity of supply. Ensure the timely communication of assigned project process through recurring formal presentations of key metrics, project schedules, and action item lists. Includes hardware and software/firmware portions into configuration management, bill of materials, and engineering change order management. Checks tester's health to ensure that it does not break down with some support from others. Helps conduct maintenance and repair for few tester elements.

Partner Management and Collaboration

  • Work with factory, new product introduction (NPI) and dev engineering stakeholders to discuss different dev/test phase scenarios and how they can integrate new tools and automation options based on their understanding of test stages and tool/automation best practices. Work at each test stage to implement certain test tools as they build hardware/software into its end-state. Help connect issues from customers/test data centers and correlate that with what is happening at the factory level. Networks with design, validation, and hardware/software teams based on their understanding.

Qualifications

Required qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s or above degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or related fields.

  • 6+ years of work experience in power related projects implemented in enterprise computer, consumer electronics design or hyperscale supply chain systems. Experience with server products is a plus.

  • 2+ years’ hands-on experience and working knowledge on ICT, MDA, or BST.

  • 3+ years’ experience in Functional Test technical manufacturing facilities or at contract manufacturing site with high-volume production as a Mfg Test Engineer, or

  • 3+ years’ experience in diagnostic tool or utility development with electronic devices.

  • Familiar with Linux operating system. Able to execute debugging or issue commands under Linux.

  • Demonstrated good capability in troubleshooting with engineering team on manufacturing related issues with test systems and storage enclosure products.

  • Working knowledge of computer subsystems, component interfaces, add-on boards, electronic test equipment.

  • Ability to communicate effectively and professionally across a range of technical disciplines.

  • Ability to take on new challenges and communicate across organizational boundaries.

  • Must be willing to travel, domestic & international and to work off hours to support business.

  • Ability to navigate through ambiguities and concepts and realize it to practical process or flows.

  • Demonstrated abilities to drive process improvements

Preferred qualifications:

  • Understanding the design and manufacturing process at the PCBA and enclosure level is a plus.

  • Knowledge of rack level test framework and methodologies

  • Knowledgeable about SW development flow and proficiency on any kind of source code control tool

  • Familiar with Azure DevOps Services, Business Intelligence tools, or Power Automate tools is a plus.

  • FW/BIOS coding experience

  • Driver development experience, Linux or Windows drivers.

  • Software development engineer experience in SQL, C#, C++, Rust, or Python
