Job Description

Overall Responsibilities:

Reporting to the Senior Director and Asia 5 Medical Affairs Lead, the Asia 5 HIV/COVID TA Medical Affairs Lead is responsible for driving regional medical strategies in HIV for the Asia 5 region. In partnership with the Asia 5 Medical Affairs Lead, Asia 5 country teams (Hong Kong, Singapore, Taiwan, Korea, and Malaysia) and relevant global and regional stakeholders, this individual will provide robust guidance on development and execution of medical strategies and plans based on solid understanding of the healthcare landscape and the insights on strengths and opportunities in Asia 5 region. He/she will build strong partnership with relevant external and internal stakeholders and deliver key regional activities to support the insight-gathering, medical education, and scientific communications. He/she will also have responsibilities in driving regional medical strategies and tactics over COVID-19 and emerging viruses for the Asia 5 region.

Specific responsibilities:

  • Provides clear guidance on development and execution of key TA medical strategies, tactics, and key stakeholder management plan to country medical scientists in HIV TA, including treatment, prevention, and franchise and COVID-19, as relevant.

  • Provides clear strategic guidance for the development of medical Plans of Action (POAs) and cross-functional projects in HIV TA and COVID-19.

  • Develops and leads key regional medical events such as Medical Affairs Advisory Program and Educational Forum in HIV across A5/Asia in partnership with country teams and relevant global medical affairs team.

  • Collaborates with country and global stakeholders to develop and execute scientific disclosure plans.

  • Develops and presents complex scientific and clinical data for Gilead products through effective use of scientific resources.

  • Provides support on Gilead Phase IV program in HIV TA that includes collaboration with investigators and internal Gilead personnel.

  • Participates in the exchange with the medical community and maintains a thought leader network, establishing strong partnerships with opinion leaders, investigators, and relevant external stakeholders at academic and non-academic settings.

  • Identifies and develops regional opinion leaders to support Gilead products and trains Gilead approved speakers through virtual and on-site contacts.

  • Supports the L&D team in designing the internal training modules and leads the scientific trainings on relevant topics.

  • Provides close coaching and mentoring to ensures continuous development of the HIV and COVID affiliate teams within Asia 5.

  • Supports smooth onboarding of new medical team members in HIV TA across Asia 5.

  • Collaborates effectively and in a compliant manner with colleagues in other functional areas, e.g. Medical information, Clinical Research and Clinical operations, Public affairs, Commercial, Market Access, Business conduct, and all other relevant functions.

Has additional internal and external leadership roles:

  • Is a member of the A5 medical leadership, in close collaborations with country medical directors.

  • Contributes to AP medical affairs leadership meetings and at relevant ICR TA projects.

  • Provides regional medical expert input into global commercialization and development teams.

  • Leads and/or contributes to organizational projects at the internal or external settings.

  • Represents A5 to external and internal stakeholders, including groups of experts, medical professional groups, societies, regulatory groups and at national and international scientific meetings.

Required Knowledge, Experience & Skills:

  • Advanced degree (i.e. M.D., Pharm.D., or Ph.D.)

  • At least 8 years of experience in pharmaceutical industry with relevant experience in medical affairs and/or related functions

  • HIV TA experience highly preferred but open to other related TA

  • Experience of working across geographies or in regional roles is preferred

  • Ability to embrace Gilead’s patient-centric values, including highest ethical and compliance standards

  • Strategic mindset with demonstration of excellent cross-functional collaborations

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with strong stakeholder management

  • Ability to travel up to 30% and demonstrates cultural intelligence to work in an international setting

  • Excellent organizational skills including attention to detail and prioritizations

  • Excellent project management skills, including planning and managing the budget

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English

  • Works independently with minimal supervision
