SUNY Upstate Medical University Trauma Registrar in Syracuse, New York
Job Summary:
A vital and integral part of the trauma team, the Trauma Registrar will be responsible for the high-quality detailed data collection and entry, statistics and reporting of data from University Hospital as well as at a Regional Level into the trauma registry. This data collection will be done through both abstraction from patient records as well as concurrent entry during trauma rounds. Additionally, the registrar will generate reports from the database as needed. The Trauma Registrar is also responsible for downloading data for submission to the Department of Health, Bureau of EMS or their designee for inclusion in the New York State Trauma Registry. This position will work closely with the Adult Trauma Medical Director, department of surgery, department of nursing and the trauma team.
Minimum Qualifications:
Associates degree in Nursing, Medical Informatics, or related field AND a minimum of 3 years related experience OR an equivalent combination of education/certification and experience required. Must have attended the following courses or within 12 months of hire: (1) the American Trauma Societies Trauma Registrar Course or equivalent provided by a state trauma program and (2) the Association of the Advancement of Automotive Medicine's Injury Scaling Course. 3) Trauma specific ICD-10 coding training. Must meet and maintain continuing education requirements as required by both NYS DOH and the American College of Surgeons or other verification designee. Excellent written/oral communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills required.
Preferred Qualifications:
CSTR (Certified Specialist in Trauma Registries) preferred. Microsoft Excel, Access and PowerPoint proficiency preferred. NYS licensed LPN or Certified Emergency Medical Technician - Paramedic preferred. Certified Abbreviated Injury Scale Specialist (CAISS) certification preferred.
