GENERAL SUMMARY AND PURPOSE:

The MGPS Medicine Specialties Director is responsible for creating a delivery system that provides care to populations of patients in accordance with the mission and values of St. Joseph’s Health. The Director is responsible for growing the areas into a high quality, profitable and marketable line of business and has overall administrative responsibility for the operations of the outpatient specialty offices, inpatient specialty groups, and provider functions. Focused on outcomes, the Director advances the clinical, financial, patient experience and operational performance of designated value systems, and engages key stakeholders, to determine care delivery improvement and collaboration opportunities across the enterprise and community.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Serves as Director for the outpatient specialty practices and inpatient specialty groups under MGPS. Works with the Medical Directors and matrixed leaders for these areas. Coaches, mentors, delegates, empowers and acts as resource to managers, coordinators and colleagues. Develops/manages physician strategies, relationships, physician/clinician and Medical Director contracts in conjunction with the MGPS CEO, COO, and/or CMO. Oversees internal clinical audits to ensure regulatory, clinical and billing compliance. Assesses the goals and needs of key stakeholders in order to provide services they need and value. Maintains specialty specific regulatory and accrediting body standards pertaining to the specialty areas. Identifies best practices and works with clinicians to implement innovative approaches to improve care. Serve as liaison between physicians and other departments as required to meet operating needs. Provide needed data to physicians to understand the business aspects of medicine. Demonstrate the ability to solve problems related to human resources, financial decisions, and performance improvement. Integrates regulatory, payor and accrediting requirements into daily operations. Maintains accountability for development, implementation and financial management of the specialties. Oversees assigned clinical, non-clinical, and technical staff for the division. Develops strategies and methodologies to support and grow the business lines. Investigates the expansion or creation of new services in conjunction with other stakeholders. Meets organization’s Customer Services Standards including interpersonal communication and professional conduct expectations. Fosters a collegial environment within and across service lines.

PHYSICAL AND MENTAL REQUIREMENTS AND WORKING CONDITIONS

This position operates in a typical office environment. The area is well lit, temperature-controlled and free from hazards.

Incumbent communicates frequently, in person and over the telephone, with people in a number of different locations on interpersonal, strategic, regulatory, and technical issues.

Manual dexterity is needed in order to operate a keyboard. Hearing is needed for extensive telephone and in person communications.

The environment in which the incumbent will work requires the ability to concentrate, meet deadlines, work on several projects at the same period and adapt to interruptions.

Must be able to set and organize own work priorities and adapt to them as they change frequently.

Must be able to travel to the various sites (up to 50%) as needed (may or may not apply).

Must be able to adapt to frequently changing work priorities and be able to balance the needs and expectations of System Office, Regional Health Ministry, and TH leadership and colleagues.
