Job Description:
The Building Automation System (BAS) Control Technician role is designed for a skilled technician experienced in HVAC controls, automation, and instrumentation. This position includes a range of tasks associated with the assembly, installation, commissioning, and testing of HVAC-focused control systems and control panels. Additionally, the role requires the ability to lead a small team of 2-4 technicians to implement BAS installation projects effectively and ensure quality and timely completion. We seek candidates who are adaptable, skilled in both HVAC and industrial control systems, and capable of supporting complex automated environments in commercial and industrial buildings.
Responsibilities can Include:
· Lead a small team of technicians (2-4 techs) through the planning, installation, and commissioning of BAS systems, ensuring adherence to project specifications, safety guidelines, and timelines.
· Install, configure, and test HVAC automation and control systems within a BAS environment, focusing on optimal performance, integration, and troubleshooting.
· Assemble, wire, and test HVAC control panels, adhering to UL 508A standards, design specifications, and operational requirements.
· Execute the installation and commissioning of electrical control systems supporting HVAC operations, including motor controls, VFDs (Variable Frequency Drives), and other critical automation components.
· Install and program PLCs (Programmable Logic Controllers), HMIs (Human Machine Interfaces), and other smart devices, specifically for HVAC systems, to enhance efficiency and control.
· Interpret electrical control panel drawings and HVAC schematics, configuring devices and wiring based on system designs, P&ID (Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams), and customer requirements.
· Integrate HVAC systems into the BAS network, ensuring seamless connectivity and communications across control systems.
· Calibrate and maintain HVAC-related instrumentation (temperature, humidity, pressure, etc.) to ensure optimal system performance and reliability.
· Maintain accurate documentation, including as-built drawings, configuration records, and maintenance logs for all BAS and HVAC control installations.
· Communicate effectively with clients and team members to resolve issues, document processes, and optimize system performance.
· Conduct troubleshooting and provide preventive maintenance on HVAC control systems to minimize downtime and improve system longevity.
· Follow all safety practices and procedures meticulously to ensure a safe work environment.
Requirements:
· High School Diploma or GED required; Associate Degree or Technical College is preferred.
Must hold a Public Trust.
· Minimum of three (3) years of experience in BAS, HVAC controls, or a related field with a focus on controls.
· Proven experience in leading small teams in the field, managing daily tasks, coordinating schedules, and ensuring quality work in BAS installations.
· Proficiency with HVAC control programming, including experience with BAS software (Tridium, Honeywell, Schneider Electric, etc.) is highly desired.
· Background in HVAC system design, control systems, and network communications.
· Must pass a background investigation and drug test.
Abilities can Include:
· Computer knowledge including Microsoft Office & Excel
· Competency with light power tools, measuring and wiring equipment, and diagnostic devices.
· Ability to work in diverse conditions (confined spaces, outdoor settings, mechanical rooms, etc.).
· Experience with diagnostic tools for HVAC control systems, such as multimeters, pressure gauges, and calibration devices.
Certifications:
· CPR/First Aid certification required within six (6) months of hire (provided by the company).
· NFPA 70E certification (provided by the company).
· Niagara Certification is preferred.
· EPA 608 Certification for HVAC work is preferred.
Abilities:
Lifts at least 100 pounds at one time and 60 pounds for an extended period of time.
Relocates a 12 foot stepladder without assistance.
Works at various heights up to 60 feet and can climb and maintain balance on scaffolds, aerial lifts, catwalks and all types of ladders.
Walks, climbs, lifts, squats, crawls, kneels, pushes, pulls and reaches overhead on a routine and repetitive basis.
Possess good vision (may be corrected vision), the ability to see in color, and the ability to hear and communicate in English.
May use a standard ladder without exceeding the weight limit while carrying tools.
Tell when something is wrong or is likely to go wrong.It does not involve solving the problem, only recognizing there is a problem.
