Walmart Senior Manager, Software Engineering - Walmart Plus in Sunnyvale, California

What you'll do...

As the Engineering Manager of the Walmart Plus Platform Team in Walmart Global Tech, you'll build industry defining reusable customer and partner facing services and products to enable differentiated membership experiences and revenue streams. About Team:

Our team works closely with our US stores and eCommerce business to better serve customers by empowering team members, stores, and merchants with technological innovation. From groceries and entertainment to sporting goods and crafts, Walmart U.S. offers an extensive selection that our customers value, whether they shop online at Walmart.com, through one of our mobile apps, or in-store. Focus areas include customers, stores and employees, in-store service, merchant tools, merchant data science, and search and personalization.

What you'll do:

A successful person in this role will build and own a highly available and scalable global membership platform, serving millions of customer with highly reliability access to membership specific benefits. You will assure that we provide high quality data to customer analytics and business partners and stay compliant with data regulations SOX requirements, drive alignment with partner teams, guide architecture and design within the team and influence it outside.

As a manager of the W+ Platform team:

  • You will lead and participate in medium- to large-scale, complex, cross-functional projects by reviewing project requirements; translating requirements into technical solutions; gathering requested information (for example, design documents, product requirements, wireframes); writing and developing code; conducting unit testing; communicating status and issues to team members and stakeholders; collaborating with the project team and cross-functional teams; troubleshooting open issues and bug-fixes; enhancing design to prevent reoccurrences of defects; ensuring on-time delivery and hand-offs; interacting with project manager to provide input on project plan; and providing leadership to the project team.

  • As a technical leader you will drive the technical vision and strategy to design, build and maintain REST API services using technologies such as Java, Spring, Hibernate, Tomcat and cloud based data stores. You will stay current with cutting-edge technologies and best practices in cloud based system development

  • As people leader you will manage a team of highly skilled engineers. Foster a positive, inclusive, and collaborative work environment. Facilitate team meetings, code reviews, and knowledge sharing sessions for groups of seven to ten engineers, including offshore associates. For assigned Engineering projects you will provide pertinent documents, direction, and examples; identifying short- and long- term solutions and timeline; reviewing and approving proposed solutions; implementing new architectural patterns; and performing design and code reviews of changes.

  • As a business leader you collaborate with business partners to identify opportunities; address high-priority initiatives (for example a business strategy, technical feasibility, implementation alternatives); identifying short- and long-term solutions; and foster cross-functional partnership to achieve our busin ess goals.

  • Lead your team through the discovery phase of all projects in your portfolio, to come up with high-level design and estimates, partnering with the product and program management, business and user experience teams; obtaining cross-function approvals; driving proof-of-concept; and implementing prototypes to validate ideas.

  • Ensure business needs are being met by evaluating the ongoing effectiveness of current plans, programs, and initiatives; consulting with business partners, managers, co-workers, or other key stakeholders; soliciting, evaluating, and applying suggestions for improving efficiency and cost-effectiveness; and participating in and supporting community outreach events.

  • Mentor and guide the professional and technical development of your team members. Help develop their careers and assign them to projects tailored to their skill levels, personalities, work styles, and professional goals

  • Monitor project progress, manage risks, and ensure high standards of quality.Drive decision making across Privacy, Product, Business, and Engineering teams to deliver projects in time and budget Monitor project progress, manage risks, and ensure high standards of quality.

  • Identify opportunities at the engineering and product side and influence leaders and engineers to solve high impact problems in the most efficient way

What you'll bring:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or a related field. A Master's degree is preferred.

  • 8+ years of experience in software development, building micro services and distributed systems.

  • 5+ years of JAVA platform experience. Strong knowledge and experience in GraphQL, gRPC, Distributed Cache and Persistence DB. Experience iMS Azure and Cosmos DBs, Kafka

  • Experience managing software development engineers and lead engineering projects as a technical lead or a manager

  • Experience in 360° people management, growing & grooming teams and to ensure the happiness and productivity of the team's software engineers.

  • Experience in coordinating, creation and completion of technical design and discussions that help drive technical architecture. Experience with risk management (technical, product, personnel)

  • Experience in partnering with cross-functional project development and in collaborating with other scrum teams, QA, Release Management, Program Management, and TechOps.

  • Experience providing guidance and influence in other areas of the Engineering (e.g. DevOps and Test Engineering).

  • Experience participating and managing Engineering and Technical Operations workgroups and on-call rotations to assure service availability and operational excellence

Bellevue, Washington US-11075:The annual salary range for this position is $132,000.00-$264,000.00

Sunnyvale, California US-04396:The annual salary range for this position is $143,000.00-$286,000.00

Additional compensation includes annual or quarterly performance bonuses.
