Meta Pre-Discovery Electrical Engineer in Sunnyvale, California


At Meta Reality Labs we aim to bring together the brightest cross-disciplinary minds in one place to deliver on our mission: build tools that help people feel connected, anytime, anywhere. As an Electrical Engineer on the Pre-Discovery team, you will design, build, and test prototype electrical systems for future consumer devices. You will become part of a team exploring new concepts through fast iterative prototyping. You will work cross-functionally with teams that will dynamically change depending on the problem and potentially include mechanical, optical, firmware, software, and research experts. We want people who work well in teams, can take a board definition and implement with electrical schematic and layout, and can transition these designs into a high-volume consumer product.We’re looking for system or board level Electrical Engineers with experience in high volume consumer products to inform Reality Lab’s roadmap and new product and experience concepts. The ideal candidate is comfortable designing mixed domain high-speed digital circuit boards, an experienced troubleshooter at the board and system level, and has familiarity with consumer product development processes. In the role you will be working with emerging technologies across the AR/MR space with the opportunity to learn from the industry leaders and help Meta achieve its goal of helping people feel connected, anytime, anywhere.

Required Skills:

Pre-Discovery Electrical Engineer Responsibilities:

  1. Own electrical exploration of highly complex systems delivering and ensuring that electrical systems achieve product goals

  2. Lead early electrical architecture definition or provide technical leadership to a larger development team

  3. Design initial schematics, direct board layout, lead cross-functional design reviews and draft design documentations

  4. Conduct feasibility studies and analysis to evaluate new technologies and components. Propose innovative solutions to enhance product performance and features

  5. Collaborate in a team environment and work across engineering disciplines to develop systems and manage trade offs across electronics, mechanics, optics, sensors, haptics, firmware and software

  6. Work in distributed team environment

  7. Contribute to building and sustaining internal Meta community through recruitment, mentorship, allyship, and a commitment to Meta’s diversity equity and inclusion goals

  8. Inform prioritization of work across teams and disciplines and actively participate in resolving technical conflicts

  9. Travel both domestically and internationally

Minimum Qualifications:

  1. BS in Electrical Engineering or Computer Engineering, or equivalent industry experience

  2. 6+ years of industry experience in electrical design

  3. Proven knowledge of electrical engineering fundamentals

  4. Experience with schematic and board design using Cadence OrCAD, Altium or equivalent

  5. Experience with use of oscilloscopes, high speed digital test equipment, logic analyzers, or function generators

  6. Experience working with multiple of these technologies: digital signal processing, real-time image processing, display engineering, camera modules, mobile SoC and PMIC, or Battery Management System

  7. Experience leading technical teams, cross-functional groups and vendors against project plans

  8. Proven technical communication skills

  1. MS or PHD in Electrical Engineering or Computer Engineering

  2. 12+ years of industry experience in electrical design

  3. Experience with audio technologies

  4. Experience with high speed signaling over MIPI C-PHY/D-PHY, PCIe, USB SS and UFS

  5. Experience with IMUs/sensor physical sensor systems with an understanding of calibration methods

  6. Experience with vision systems

  7. Experience programming in languages like Python or C/C++

  8. Experience with circuit design in high speed circuits, Verilog/FPGAs, microcontrollers, microprocessors, firmware, and programmable logic based development

  9. Experience designing for HDI flexible and rigid substrates for high volume cost optimized applications

  10. Experience developing manufacturing tests for high-volume consumer products

  11. Experience defining system architecture based on product specification

  12. Consumer Electronics experience and/or working within a mass production environment

Public Compensation:

$170,000/year to $240,000/year + bonus + equity + benefits
