Amazon Hardware Reliability Engineer III, Reliability Engineering in Sunnyvale, California

Description

Amazon is a leader in developing first of its kind hardware, such as Kindle, Echo and Dash. The Amazon reliability team aims to develop reliable and robust products that delight our customers. In this role, as a Sr. Hardware Reliability Engineer, you will be responsible for the reliability engineering of our new and emerging category devices. You should have a good understanding of Reliability statistics, Reliability tests, and a solid understanding of consumer electronics. You will be responsible for:

  • Defining new test specifications, methodologies, and test coverage to assure product reliability

  • Identifying and validating product risks while working with design teams to mitigate them

  • Owning hands-on experimental design and execution

  • Performing reliability prediction of failure mechanisms on products under development and products in the field

You will engage with an experienced cross-disciplinary staff and outside partners to drive key aspects of product definition, execution and test. You must be responsive, flexible and able to succeed within an open collaborative peer environment.

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Physics, related fields, or equivalent experience

  • 7+ years of experience in reliability engineering or consumer electronics

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working with interdisciplinary teams to execute product design from concept to production

  • Master’s degree

  • Experience with electrical stress testing, ESD testing, environmental stress testing, fatigue testing, vibration and shock testing. Experience in the area of robotics is plus.

  • Experience in data analytics, statistical analysis and machine learning. Able to perform reliability analysis such as lifetime analysis, accelerated factor studies, reliability modeling and reliability allocation.

  • Capable to use quality and reliability tools such as FMEA, Fishbone, FTAs, RBDs, DOEs and Six-sigma methods to build reliable products.

  • Familiar with data analysis tools such as JMP, Reliasoft, Matlab, Minitab or Python.

  • Experience with failure analysis techniques: Electrical debug, Cross sectioning, dye and pry and microscopy

  • Knowledge of reliability and quality standards from IEC, IEEE, ISO, ANSI, ASTM and JEDEC. Knowledge in the areas of compliance and functional safety will be a plus.

  • Experience with IC/Semiconductor reliability, board reliability, display reliability, IC package types, board design and layout.

  • Strong communication skills in writing and presenting

  • Able to deep dive into reliability problems and resolve them independently.

  • This position will require some international travel

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $128,600/year in our lowest geographic market up to $213,600/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company.
