Uber Engineering Manager II, Machine Learning - Account Integrity in Sunnyvale, California

About the Role

We are looking for an experienced Engineering Manager II to joing the Trusted Identity engineering team. The Trusted Identity team plays a crucial role in our mission to thoroughly verify the identity of our customers (riders, eaters) and partners (drivers, restaurants) while ensuring powerful, intuitive and streamlined user experiences. Our continued obsession for innovation in the space is essential to ensure safety as people interact on Uber's platform. The Account Integrity team prevents fake identities from operating on the platform, and ensures that accounts are not duplicated nor fraudulent to enhance accountability.

What the Candidate Will Need / Bonus Points

---- What the Candidate Will Do ----

  1. Lead a set of Machine Learning Engineers that build models to improve fraud detection and ensure the integrity of all Uber accounts

  2. Work closely with cross-functional partners to understand product/business context and incorporate them into planning.

  3. Set the technical vision and roadmap for the team balancing execution against product goals, investing in foundations and innovating using latest tools & techniques.

  4. Setup the right processes to ensure the team follows best Engineering practices.

---- Basic Qualifications ----

  1. Ph.D. or M.S. degree in Machine Learning, Statistics, Computer Science or other related technical discipline.

  2. 2+ years of experience directly managing high-performing Machine Learning Engineering teams.

  3. High degree of ownership and bias towards action, with a focus on impact and results.

  4. 3+ years of hands-on Machine Learning Engineer experience

---- Preferred Qualifications ----

  1. 5+ years experience / track-record of building machine learning, or fraud detection systems.

  2. Strong product sense and experience with end-to-end ownership of product development.

  3. Demonstrated ability to make data-driven decisions using strong analytical skills, with a track record of leveraging insights to drive Engineering investment direction.

  4. Excellent communication and cross-functional collaboration skills.

  5. Strong people leadership skills including growing and mentoring team members.

  6. Keeps up to date with industry trends, latest research in ML/DL/LLM, and be able to proactively make pragmatic choices on what to adapt in our systems.

For San Francisco, CA-based roles: The base salary range for this role is USD$223,000 per year - USD$248,000 per year. For Sunnyvale, CA-based roles: The base salary range for this role is USD$223,000 per year - USD$248,000 per year. For all US locations, you will be eligible to participate in Uber's bonus program, and may be offered an equity award & other types of comp. You will also be eligible for various benefits.
