U.S. Census Bureau ADMINISTRATIVE SPECIALIST in Suitland, Maryland

Summary This vacancy is for an ADMINISTRATIVE SPECIALIST position in the Associate Director for Economic Programs located at the U.S. Census Bureau Headquarters in Suitland, Maryland. The Census Bureau is accessible from the Metro Rail Green Line - Suitland Station. This Job Opportunity Announcement may be used to fill other ADMINISTRATIVE SPECIALIST, 0301-7/9/11/12, FPL GS-12, positions within the Census Bureau in the same geographical location with the same qualifications and specialized experience. Responsibilities Support management, co-workers, and other internal and external customers with routine inquiries concerning standard processing procedures, requirements, and office functions. Perform administrative processes and procedures concerning personnel to include: recruitment, establishment of positions, awards, position classification, procurement, and other personnel matters. Develop and review administrative documents and databases to include reconciling government purchases through online credit card system. Requirements Conditions of Employment Qualifications Specialized Experience: For the GS-07, you must have one year of experience at a level of difficulty and responsibility equivalent to the GS-05 in the Federal service. Experience for this position includes: Providing general guidance to management, co-workers, and other internal and external customers with routine inquiries concerning standard processing procedures, requirements, and office functions; Utilizing computers, software applications, databases, and automated systems to perform administrative processes and procedures; Assisting with completing personnel actions utilizing all required forms and documentation; and Reviewing purchase requests and making payments. OR Education: 1 year of graduate-level education or superior academic achievement. Specialized Experience: For the GS-09, you must have one year of experience at a level of difficulty and responsibility equivalent to a GS-07 in the Federal service. Experience for this position includes: Providing general guidance to management, co-workers, and other internal and external customers with routine inquiries concerning standard processing procedures, requirements, and office functions; Utilizing computers, software applications, databases, and automated systems to perform administrative processes and procedures; Assisting with administrative processes and procedures concerning personnel to include: recruitment, establishment of positions, awards, position classification, procurement, and/or other personnel matters; and Reconciling government purchases through online credit card system. Education: Master's or equivalent graduate degree; or 2 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree; or LL.B. or J.D., if related. Specialized Experience: For the GS-11, you must have one year of experience at a level of difficulty and responsibility equivalent to a GS-09 in the Federal service. Experience for this position includes: Assessing the customer's needs, providing assistance, and resolving problems; Prioritizing assignments to meet deadlines; Utilizing computers, software applications, databases, and automated systems to complete administrative assignments; Performing administrative processes and procedures concerning personnel to include: recruitment, establishment of positions, personnel actions, awards, and/or classification; Reviewing information for accuracy, completeness, or consistency with standard regulations; Reconciling government purchases through online credit card system; and Routing and controlling incoming administrative tasks through an internal request tracking system. OR Education: Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree; or 3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree; or LL.M., if related. Specialized Experience: For the GS-12, you must have one year of experience at a level of difficulty and responsibility equivalent to a GS-11 in the Federal service. Experience for this position includes: Assessing the customer's needs, providing assistance, and resolving problems; Prioritizing assignments to meet deadlines; Researching and providing guidance for technical issues; Utilizing computers, software applications, databases, and automated systems to complete administrative assignments; Performing administrative processes and procedures concerning personnel to include: recruitment, establishment of positions, personnel actions, awards, and/or classification; Reconciling government purchases through online credit card system; Reviewing information for accuracy, completeness, or consistency with standard regulations; and Routing and controlling incoming administrative tasks through an internal request tracking system. Education: For the GS-12, education CANNOT be substituted for experience. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer. Education Additional Information If hired for this position with the Census Bureau, at its headquarters office located in Suitland, Maryland, you will be expected to temporarily telework to maximum extent while the headquarters building is being renovated. Once renovations are completed for your area, you will be notified when to return to the office. At that time, you will be expected to work from your duty station, and you may be eligible to telework, up to 8 days a pay period depending on your respective work schedule, with approval from your supervisor.
