Job Title: Phlebotomist - Pediatrics

Job Description

Join a dynamic and busy office renowned for its exceptional pediatric blood draw services. The team consists of experienced phlebotomists who work collaboratively, creating a supportive work environment. This position offers potential for full-time employment with the possibility of converting, as a vacancy has recently opened.

Responsibilities

  • Perform blood draws, label specimens, and centrifuge specimens while ensuring accurate recording of maintenance data and decontamination.

  • Collect and store specimens according to established procedures.

  • Clearly and courteously explain the venipuncture process and other specimen collection methods to patients.

  • Demonstrate techniques using straight needles and butterfly needles.

  • Understand and follow all physicians' orders accurately.

  • Match laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes, label, centrifuge, split, and freeze specimens as required by test orders.

  • Ensure test requisitions or computer labels are 100% correct against scripts.

  • Package specimens for transport and store samples according to required temperatures and protocols.

  • Comply with OSHA and DEP regulations and attend annual department trainings.

  • Answer telephone inquiries and read laboratory results to satisfy queries.

Essential Skills

  • Strong phlebotomy skills.

  • Exceptional customer service skills.

  • Minimum of 1 year experience in phlebotomy.

  • Pediatric experience is crucial due to high volume of pediatric blood draws.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Ability to handle a fast-paced environment, seeing up to 200 patients a day.

  • Experience with specimen processing and centrifuging.

  • Understanding of specimen packaging and transport procedures.

Work Environment

The work environment is fast-paced, requiring phlebotomists to be on their feet and moving around for most of the day. The team operates efficiently, especially during peak hours with high patient volumes. Although phlebotomists primarily focus on blood draws and specimen processing, they do not cover front desk duties. The office opens every third Saturday from 7 AM to 11 AM.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $17.40 - $20.65/hr.
