Responsibilities

Coral Shores Behavioral Hospital is an 80-bed behavioral health facility located in Stuart, FL, and provides inpatient treatment for children, adolescents, adults, and senior adults. Our professional staff individualizes care to uniquely fit the intensity and severity of each patient case and their family's needs. Because crisis occurs at all times of the day and night, our services are provided 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

SUMMARY: Lead Mental Health Specialists assist in the direct care and management of adults, children, adolescent clients (ages 7 to 17 years) as prescribed by the physician and treatment team; provide supervision, safety and crisis management for the client population; complete documentation of resident behavior and participate in programming; adhere to the scheduled activities; role model positive, mature behavior and utilize proactive behavioral strategies to minimize client crisis and maximize success.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Assists in the implementation of the treatment plan for each patient, by completing all required documentation.

  • Assists in providing safe delivery of care to meet the goals and objectives of each patient’s plan of care.

  • Responds to crisis situations and manages patient behaviors in accordance with the Behavioral Management Program.

  • Assists with the unit milieu to guide the development of acceptable habits and attitudes by consistently and fairly implementing the behavioral program, emphasizing good choices, and positive interactions.

  • Completes documentation regarding patient supervision and participation in the program in a timely manner.

  • Properly carry out patient restraints, as per Handle with Care training requirements.

  • Assists the teacher in providing instructions and training on the unit.

  • Attends and participates in all scheduled unit meetings and trainings.

  • Consistently follows the program activity schedule and implements all safety and security procedures.

  • Serve as a role model for patients.

  • Approaches clients within the milieu from a trauma informed care perspective.

  • Performs other related duties as assigned by management.

    SKILLS:

  • Leadership is exhibited during crisis intervention.

  • Organizational skills are exhibited resulting in organized programming.

  • The Program Schedule is followed.

  • Psycho-educational interventions are properly documented.

  • Flexibility in scheduling is exhibited so that the needs of the unit are met.

  • Positive promotion of the clinical modalities of the program (PMT and MDT).

  • Leadership of the unit in the modality based approach when interacting with the residents to include but not limited to positive praise, VCR techniques.

  • Communicating with the nurse proactively when the milieu is potentially compromised by an unsafe resident.

  • Offering support, creating a strong helping relationship with the residents, and making sure that patient safety rounds are assigned to staff members working the unit.

  • Professional demeanor with the employees in the facility and refraining from derogatory or negative conversations while in the facility. Any concerns are discussed in a solution oriented manner with the direct supervisor.

    Qualifications

    QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Experience: minimum six months as a Mental Health Specialist.
