ManTech IT and System Administrator Intern in Sterling, Virginia

ManTech is seeking a motivated Protective Technology Services (PTS) IT and System Administrator Intern to join our team in the Sterling, VA area providing protective technologies supporting our government customer’s facilities, property and vehicles operating in high threat and austere locations worldwide. The S&W Section develops, installs, integrates and manages life-safety technology used to detect aerial projectiles through various methods of spatial surveillance.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Assisting monitoring and maintaining computer systems, networks, and servers to ensure high availability and performance.

  • Assisting troubleshooting and resolving hardware and software issues, including desktops, laptops, servers, and network devices.

  • Install, configure, and maintain server hardware and software, including operating systems, applications, and security software.

  • Participate in developing and implementing backup and disaster recovery procedures.

  • Learn to implement and maintain security policies and procedures to protect the organization's data and systems from unauthorized access, viruses, and other security threats.

  • Managing user accounts and permissions, including adding, removing, and modifying user accounts as necessary.

  • Learn to monitor and manage network performance and bandwidth utilization to ensure optimal performance and identify potential issues before they cause problems.

  • Assist in maintaining and updating system documentation to ensure accuracy and completeness.

  • Provide support to end-users on various IT-related topics, including hardware, software, and security best practices.

  • Presenting high level briefings.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Can do attitude.

  • Willingness to learn.

  • Strong interest in pursuing a career in system administration.

  • Currently pursuing bachelor’s degree in computer science, Information Technology, Cybersecurity or a related field.

  • Strong knowledge of Microsoft Windows Server and Linux operating systems.

  • Familiarity to virtualization technologies (VMware, Hyper-V)

  • Basic understanding of networking concepts, protocols, and security (TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, VLANs, VPNs, firewalls).

  • Ability to troubleshoot and resolve technical issues quickly and effectively.

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

  • Position requires self-motivation and the ability to work effectively under supervision.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • One (1) year of experience working with radios and communication systems.

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Windows operating systems and office automation software (e.g., Microsoft Office, SharePoint).

Security Clearance Requirements:

  • Individuals must be a U.S. Citizen and either hold an active US Security Clearance or must be eligible to obtain a US Security Clearance.

Physical Requirements:

  • Constantly operates a computer and other office productivity machinery, such as a calculator, copy machine, and computer printer

  • Must be able to remain in a stationary position 50% of the time

  • The person in this position needs to occasionally move about inside the office to access file cabinets, office machinery, etc.
