About this position:
To learn the basics of law enforcement services in the support of the DOTD police mission to protect the infrastructure of the State Highway System.
DOTD Enforcement Agent position is assigned to the DOTD Police within the Department of Transportation and Development. DOTD Police is statutorily mandated and has sole responsibility for enforcing the federal/state, size, weight, permit, registration and taxation regulations. The incumbent assigned ensures enforcement efforts promote a safe and secure driving environment, while protecting and preserving vital roadway infrastructures. This position requires a current POST certified Police Officer or shall obtain POST certification within one year of date of hire. The candidate must also pass a background check, Physical Fitness Test, Polygraph, Matrix exam and Drug screen. Must possess a valid driver's license at the time of appointment. An applicant who has been convicted of a felony or who is under indictment on a felony charge, will be disqualified until relief from the disabilities imposed by state and federal laws is granted. While in official capacity, DOTD employees must comply with applicable Louisiana and Civil Service laws, rules, and regulations, as well as DOTD policies, procedures, manuals, and directives.

DOTD ENFORCEMENT AGENT - has a minimum hire rate of $19.27/hourly
DOTD ENFORCEMENT SENIOR AGENT- has a minimum hire rate of $20.62/hourly.

Minimum Qualifications
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
No experience or training is required.
NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
Applicants must be at least 21 years of age.
Possession of a valid driver's license.
Willingness and ability to attain a Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) certification.
An applicant who has been convicted of a misdemeanor crime of domestic violence or a felony, or who is under indictment on a felony charge will be disqualified by the hiring agency until relief from the disabilities imposed by state and federal laws is granted.

Job Duties and Responsibilities:
60% The DOTD Enforcement Agent acts as a uniformed commissioned/POST-certified Police Officer and serves as a representative in an assigned geographical area.
The primary focus, of the Agency, is weight and size enforcement of both State and Federal Laws and must be capable of conducting advanced police skills such as investigations, patrol and test procedures, and gathering of evidence.
The incumbent shall ensure that the applicable rules and regulations are enforced fairly and consistently. The incumbent answers directly to the Enforcement Sergeant-Training Coordinator-Region 2 and will aid in a variety of duties that require initiative, independent judgement, and responsibility. The incumbent will be responsible for daily duties as an Enforcement Agent, as well as expected to assist in other support functions such as, but not limited to, training enforcement personnel in areas such as firearms handling, defensive tactics, disciplines, and other less than-lethal applications, and other various programs to aid the growth of Enforcement Agents within the section. The incumbent is required to meet all mandated state and departmental required POST training, qualifications, and certifications.
20% Ensures that required statistical reports, time and attendance reports, and other required administrative paperwork is completed in an accurate and timely manner. Works well with other officers/compliance inspectors and stays briefed on departmental regulations and policies. Informs the Supervisor of all pertinent information within the region or statewide area as needed. Incumbent maintains records and transmits orders given to him by his supervisor.
10% Ensure that Department issued equipment is well maintained and used in a manner consistent with DOTD Police Policy.
5% Incumbent conducts and completes investigations as directed and may be assigned as the lead investigator over lower-level agents. Incumbent maintains a working knowledge of all policies, procedures, and practices in effect.
5% Performs all other job-related duties as required by supervisors. While in official capacity, DOTD employees must comply with applicable Louisiana and Civil Service laws, rules, and regulations, as well as DOTD policies, procedures, manuals and directives.
Other Necessary Requirements:
Note: The incumbent in this position must be available for cross-utilization in any DOTD Police Unit assigned to the Department. Therefore, the process of cross-utilization applies to this position as needed.
Note: The incumbent in this position may be required to work shift work and shall maintain all annual recertification requirements as imposed by federally mandated and departmental requirements.
Note: The individual who occupies this position must not pose a direct threat to the health or safety of such individual or other in the workplace. This means the individual must not pose a significant risk of substantial harm to the health or safety of the individual or others that cannot be eliminated or reduced by reasonable accommodation.
Note: The Police Officer shall be readily available for deployment during Natural disasters or declared emergencies.
Note: Shall be required to attend all Court appearances, administrative hearings, dispositions and any other legal process.
