Department of Labor Labor Services Rep (LVER) Trainee 1/2 in Staten Island, New York

This title is part of the New York Hiring for Emergency Limited Placement Statewide program (NY HELPS). For the duration of the NY HELPS Program, this title may be filled via a non-competitive appointment, if they meet the below NY HELPS minimum qualifications.NY HELPS Non-Competitive Minimum Qualifications:Must have a bachelor's degree* or higher, and must meet one of the following criteria for Veteran of the U.S. Armed Forces:Either 1. Served on active duty for over 180 days for purposes other than training and an honorable discharge or under conditions in the NYS Restoration of Honor Act;Or 2. Was discharged from active duty because of a service-connected disability;Or 3. Was a member of a reserve component in the U.S. Armed Services under an order to active duty during a period of war or in a campaign or expedition for which a campaign badge is authorized and an honorable discharge or under conditions in the NYS Restoration of Honor Act;Or 4. Was discharged by reason of a sole survivorship discharge.A copy of your DD-214 (Member 4 or Service 2) and/or a NYS Restoration of Honor Act letter is required.Your degree must have been awarded by a college or university accredited by a regional, national, or specialized agency recognized as an accrediting agency by the U.S. Department of Education/U.S. Secretary of Education. If your degree was awarded by an educational institution outside the United States or its territories, you must provide independent verification of equivalency.It is expected that employees hired under NY HELPS will have their non-competitive employment status converted to competitive status in the future, without having to compete in an examination. If your degree was awarded by an educational institution outside the United States or its territories, you must provide independent verification of equivalency.Preferred Qualifications:Ability to initiate and maintain relationships across a diverse set of stakeholders.STANDARD DUTIES:The Labor Service Representative (LVER) within the Division of Employment and Workforce Solutions will conduct outreach to businesses and engage in advocacy efforts with hiring executives to increase employment opportunities for veterans; encourage the hiring of disabled veterans, and generally assist veterans to gain and retain employment.The duties assigned to LVER staff members include but are not limited to promoting to businesses, business associations, and business groups the advantages of hiring veterans.Advocating for all veterans served by the Career Centers and ensure easier access to appropriate employment and training services for job seeking veterans in their local market areas.Position specific job duties may include occasional altered work schedule or job assignments which require availability and willingness to work occasional evenings and/or out-stationed assignments.Candidates with no previous state service will begin at the starting rate of the salary range listed above.Candidate MAY be allowed to telecommute up to 4 days per pay period dependent upon operational needs.If you are a current NYS employee and have questions regarding salary, please contact the Business Services Center (BSC): 518-457-4272, BSCHR@ogs.ny.gov.
