Winter Nurse Intern Program

Inpatient units; including but not limited to Oncology, Neurology, Obstetrics, Special Care Nursery, Cardiac, Telemetry, and General Medicine.

Internship Description:

Winter break and possible J-term paid internship

  • Variable start dates in December 2024

  • Flexible end date in January 2025 (depending on your school schedule)

  • Work schedule: minimum 30 hours throughout the J term time (No overtime)

Every effort is made to place interns in the clinical setting that match their career goals, whenever possible. Interns will be hired into a specific patient care area for the duration of the summer. The specific patient care area will be determined at the time of a job offer. There are a wide variety of hospital patient care units within the M Health Fairview health system that hire summer interns such as: med surg, cardiac tele, oncology, neuro, ortho, spine, acute rehab, behavioral health, transplant, stepdown units and float pool. Please note the intensive care unit, operating room, emergency department and birth center hire a limited number of interns into these critical care specialties.

  • University of Minnesota Medical Center - East Bank and West Bank (Minneapolis)

  • Masonic Children’s Hospital (Minneapolis)

  • Fairview Southdale Hospital (Edina)

  • Fairview Ridges Hospital (Burnsville)

  • Woodwinds Hospital (Woodbury)

  • St. John’s Hospital (Maplewood)

  • Fairview Northland Medical Center (Princeton)

  • Fairview Lakes Medical Center (Wyoming)

Qualifications

Requirements:

  • Currently enrolled in an accredited baccalaureate (BSN/BAN) nursing program.

  • Applicants will have completed their junior year in a baccalaureate (BSN/BAN) nursing program by the start of the internship and cannot have RN licensure.An anticipated graduation date of Spring or Fall of 2025 or at minimum successfully completed a clinical course.

  • Have a GPA of 3.0 or higher.

  • Have BLS for healthcare providers certification through February 1, 2025.

  • Be able to work the same shift as your preceptor.

  • Attend all mandatory orientation.

  • If you accept an internship position, it is required for you to enroll and participate in the winter nurse internship course at a Minnesota based school of nursing.
