The Director of Postsecondary Education serves as a critical member of the Education Unit Leadership Team and provides agency leadership and strategic direction for postsecondary education programming across all facilities within the Minnesota Department of Corrections (DOC). The Director of Postsecondary Education occupies a unique place within the DOC as the facilitating link between postsecondary education partners, faculty members, staff, students, facility leadership and staff, and DOC Central Office leadership while cultivating a person-centered approach to education and furthering the best interests of the students within the DOC.

Minimum Qualifications

To be qualified for and considered for this position, applicants must meet all of the minimum qualifications listed below. Ensure that your resume contains descriptions of your work experiences sufficient for comparison against the requirements stated below and indicate the beginning and ending month and year for each job held.

  • Four years of experience administering a postsecondary education program which includes directing the planning, development, implementation, and evaluation of diverse or emergent educational programs

  • Demonstrated leadership experience. Leadership experience can include experience as a supervisor, lead worker, team lead, project lead, or completion of a State of Minnesota leadership program (e.g. ELI or SLI), or comparable leadership program

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills with the demonstrated ability to communicate across and within organizations, prepare compelling written and oral presentations, and create clear strategic and operational plans.

Preferred Qualifications

The following qualifications are strongly desired of applicants seeking consideration for this position:

  • Knowledge of Prison Education Programs and Second Chance Pell regulations and processes

  • Experience working in corrections-based postsecondary education programming

  • Experience managing partnerships for a state agency or higher education institution

  • Experience developing, implementing, and evaluating new academic programming

  • Experience managing partnerships for a state agency or higher education institution

  • Experience establishing effective strategic, administrative, and/or reporting metrics for school, school district, university, or community educational programs, including dashboard development, data collection and analysis

  • Leadership development experience

  • Experience supervising professional level employees

Additional Requirements

The selection process may include screening the top candidate(s) on their criminal history, predatory offender registration, offender associations and/or other applicable background information in accordance with Department of Corrections’ policy. Top candidate(s) must pass a criminal history check which includes successful completion of all sentencing and/or restitution requirements of law enforcement jurisdictions, including probation.

Employment history/reference checks, including incidents of sexual harassment, will also be conducted on the top candidate(s) in accordance with Department of Corrections’ policy. This may include a review of job performance and discipline records.
