This position will provide supervision, resource management and leadership to the Chemistry and Toxicology Analysis Unit within the Laboratory Services Division. This position will communicate and implement laboratory management policies, procedures and directives to the unit so that customer expectations and division goals are met. This position will also manage and direct the review and interpretation of data generated within the unit so reported results meet data quality objectives and will collaboratively plan, implement and maintain the laboratory's quality assurance and quality control system so the quality of the work produced can withstand legal and scientific review.

Minimum Qualifications

To facilitate proper years of service crediting, please ensure that your resume clearly describes your experience in the areas listed and indicates the beginning and ending month and year for each job held.

Four years of experience working in a food, feed or environmental laboratory. Experience must include knowledge of the principals and practices of analytical chemistry, data processing, analytical methods and operating laboratory equipment.

A Bachelor’s of Science in Chemistry or related scientific field may substitute for one year of experience. A Master’s of Science in Chemistry or related scientific field may substitute for 18 months of experience.

Previous supervisory, lead worker, or leadership experience which may include completing of leadership development programs such as the Everyday Leaders Institute or the Senior Leadership Institute.

Knowledge of effective leadership and management practices.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience in an ISO 17025 accredited laboratory.

Supervisory or lead worker experience in a regulatory laboratory.

Physical Requirements

This position exists in an analytical laboratory. As such, all potential safety hazards associated with this type of environment are assumed to be present. Hazards such as chemical exposure, hot surfaces, compressed gases and mechanical hazards exist in this section. This position must be comfortable working around these hazards and have sufficient knowledge to recognize and prevent harm to themselves or others. This position must be able to function in this environment and must be comfortable wearing personal protective gear.
