This position is located in the Air Policy Unit and exists to manage and analyze air sensor data generated by the Agency, grantees, and other external partners, and assist senior staff to organize, analyze, and report on air sensor data so that MPCA can ensure people disproportionately impacted by air pollution are protected. Specific tasks will include helping internal and external data generators to submit their data to the Agency Air Sensor Database, data validation, and ensuring sensor data are uploaded into the database accurately and in a timely manner. The position requires strong database, data science and statistical analysis skills to organize extensive air sensor data and present it through summaries, reports, graphics, visualization, and presentations. Strong communication skills are needed for work on internal teams as well as for communication with external stakeholders.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in environmental science, atmospheric science, data science, statistics, computer science, geography, or a closely related field.
OR
Two (2) years of paraprofessional or technical experience in environmental data management, air-quality or other sensor monitoring, database or GIS work, or statistical analysis of environmental data (an associate degree in environmental science, data analytics, computer science, or a closely related field will substitute for one year of the required experience).
OR
One (1) year of professional experience compiling, validating, analyzing, and reporting air-sensor or similar environmental monitoring data using database and statistical tools.

Preferred Qualifications
Air-pollution coursework (fate, transport, health effects) paired with solid statistics and data-management foundations.
Demonstrated skill analyzing large sensor datasets using SQL and Python/R, with results mapped or dashboarded in GIS/Tableau.
Ability to turn complex analytics into clear, plain-language reports, visuals, and web content.
Familiarity with state & federal air-quality regulations and a commitment to applying environmental-justice principles.
Strong teamwork and communication with agency staff, community groups, and tribal nations.
Physical Requirements
Requires occasionally lifting and/or carrying such articles as file folders, ledgers, and small equipment. Although a sedentary job is defined as one which involves sitting, a certain amount of walking and standing is often necessary in carrying out job duties.
Additional Requirements
Position duties may require travel but driving is not a minimum qualification or essential function of this position. Employees who may drive for state business will need their driver’s license checked prior to operating a state vehicle.
