Boyd Gaming BANQUET CAPTAIN in St. Charles, Missouri

What would I be doing?

The Banquet Captain performs as a lead member of our guest service staff at all banquet, meeting, and convention center events involving food and/or the use of our convention space. The Banquet Captain is responsible for providing superior service to both our internal and external customers, including promptly meeting, greeting, and seating our guests, leading service, and coordinating other members of the service team to ensure timely and courteous service based on our guests’ needs.

The Banquet Captain is generally expected to:

  • Deliver exceptional internal and external guest service

  • Ensure guests are greeted and directed to tables which are set and ready and where food service can be provided in an orderly manner.

  • Lead banquet, meeting, and convention service consistent with expectations of and directions from the Banquet Manager.

  • Work with, assist with training, and coordinate service staff to insure all internal and external guest service is provided in Boyd Style

  • Work with Sous Chef and kitchen staff to ensure proper food preparation and timing, and that all last-minute changes are handled properly, in order to ensure highest levels of guest satisfaction.

  • Open and close work area at scheduled times; ensure full preparation for all service, operations, or functions; ensure cleanliness of company assets; and monitor and ensure security of company assets.

  • Coordinate wait staff and bus-person activities; coordinate room setup with stewards; and oversee placement of buffets, risers, head tables, etc.

  • Communicate frequently and accurately with the Banquet Manager / Banquet Director to help insure the effective operation of the banquet group, including information related to all shift activities, guest service provided by team members, guest service successes, and suggestions for the improvement of guest service.

  • Assists the Banquet Manager / Banquet Director on an “as-needed basis” with various administrative tasks, including scheduling, tracking attendance, etc.

WORKING CONDITIONS/ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • This position is subject to varying levels of crowds, noise, and smoke, the severity of which depends upon customer volume and activity.

  • Ability to provide superior service, including communicating effectively with all customers and coworkers.

  • Ability to transport trays and/or plates (which may weigh up to 50 pounds) throughout the banquet area, as well as to serve food items and beverages.

  • Ability to review and comprehend necessary documentation.

  • Ability to take orders accurately, recite specials, and direct a guest’s attention to specific items on the menu.

  • Ability to stand, walk, and bend throughout an eight-hour shift.

  • Ability to effectively and efficiently move throughout the banquet and kitchen area.

What are we looking for?

Experience waiting tables, including regularly acting as a lead server for banquet or catering events or facilities. These skills and abilities are typically acquired through minimum of three years’ progressive food and beverage experience. Prior banquet or convention experience preferred.
