[**[POSITION SUMMARY [[Under regular supervision of the Landfill Field Supervisor, performs responsible work monitoring activities at a solid waste recycling and solid waste collection site. The Site Operator is subject to inside and outside environmental conditions, extreme cold, extreme heat and atmospheric conditions.

• Operates a trash compactor;
• Maintains appearance of collection site;
• Provides assistance to the public;
• Monitors recycling containers;
• Opens and closes facility;
• Checks all machinery and equipment for proper operation and proper lubrication;
• Ensures material to be recycled is placed in the proper receptacles;
• Requests container replacement when full;
• Informs public of items that must be taken elsewhere for disposal;
• Directs the public to the proper location for disposing of materials;
• Hands out recycling literature;
• Assists elderly and disabled persons with unloading of materials;
• Ensures safety rules and procedures are followed;
• Monitors loads for hazardous materials;
• Performs related tasks as required.

[**[KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES [[General knowledge of the various materials recycled by the County; some knowledge of a variety of maintenance and manual tasks involved in operation of a collection site; ability to understand and follow specific oral instructions; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with associates and the general public.

[**[EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE [[Any combination of education and experience equivalent to a high school diploma.
