The Application Development Manager is responsible for applications systems analysis and programming activities, for feasibility studies, time and cost estimates, and the establishment and implementation of new or revised applications systems and programs required to support Swagelok operations. Manages a team responsible for change management, SAP Basis development and Application Managed Services (AMS). Partners with line of business application teams with the primary objective of understanding business direction, priorities, and establishing strong business relationships. Consults with personnel in other information systems groups to coordinate activities.

Responsibilities:

  • Help define core technologies on an ongoing basis as well as defining best practices for software development

  • Support the use of the approved software development tool sets and standard practices

  • Work closely with the architects / developers to develop the best technical design and approach for new product development

  • Review design architecture, application usability, supportability, retention limits, disaster recovery guideline, and hardware requirements

  • Function as a key interface point with the Line of Business, Distributors and customers to develop software requirement documents and build strong business relationships

  • Function as Project Manager on departmental or small to mid-sized corporate projects

  • Management of departmental resources, staffing, and enhancing and maintaining a best-in-class team

  • Assigns personnel to various projects and directs activities.

  • Confront problems and resolve conflict

  • Prepare activity and progress reports and be accountable for all actions

  • Confers with and advises subordinates on administrative policies and procedures, technical problems, priorities and methods.

  • Challenge associates to improve and provide opportunities to assist them in reaching their potential. Educate associates to understand and achieve individual, company and organizational goals through:

  • Training, directing, coaching and evaluation

  • Reviews and evaluates work and prepares performance reports.

  • Developing, monitoring, and communicating key performance indicators

  • Setting the example: displaying integrity on and off the job

  • Talking with associates about concerns, issues, performance, and personal development in a direct, positive, and professional manner

  • Challenging associates to improve and providing opportunities to assist them in reaching their potential

  • Communicating and listening while creating an environment that fosters trust, fairness, and respect

  • Uses the Swagelok Competency Inventory as a self-assessment guide for developing job competencies and personal improvement

  • Conducts interviews, hires new staff, and provides associate orientation (as needed).

  • Handles staff scheduling, including: work assignments, training, vacations, work hours, off-hours support, and backups for absent associates.

  • Approves associate expense reports and purchase requests within company guidelines

  • Achieve departmental and company objectives, support company operating plans

  • Handles additional responsibilities related to various systems and technologies as the need arises.

  • As a leader, you are expected to know, enforce, and appropriately escalate all Swagelok associate policies.

Required Education and Work Expeirence:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics or Business

  • 4+ years of experience with software development

  • 5+ years of experience implementing and supporting one or more business application

  • 2+ years leading projects

  • Leadership experience - 5+ years’ experience as a manger of people/teams

  • Excellent communication skills, presentation skills, and computer skills

  • Knowledge of Systems Analysis, software development and project management
