US Department of Agriculture Forestry Technician (Recreation) in Sitka, Alaska

The Sitka Ranger District is looking for talented individuals to join our professional and diverse workforce in the Recreation, Wilderness and Trails Program. The Alaska National Interest Lands Conservation Act (ANILCA) is a local hiring authority, allowing federal land management agencies like the U.S. Forest Service to give selection preference to eligible local applicants for qualifying jobs with the US Forest Service.

The FORESTRY TECHNICIAN (Recreation) position will serve as part of the trails and cabins crews. Crews generally consists of 4-6 members and Lead/Supervisor. This is a great opportunity to work outdoors and see the vast landscapes, mountains and alpine lakes of the Tongass National Forest and surrounding Wilderness. Job duties include (but not limited to) Assists with building and maintenance of trails and district recreation facilities such as: cabins, picnic tables, fire rings, barriers, toilets and other miscellaneous structures. Job is labor intensive and physically demanding.
