Shell Trading Analyst, Middle Distillates in Singapore, Singapore

The trading analyst role is based in Singapore as part of the Products Trading group. It requires strong analytical skills and a passion and willingness to challenge conventional thinking, the ability to communicate effectively with different stakeholders at various organizational levels, to work on complex global problems, and to build shared vision and energize and convince others into collective action to achieve a goal to drive new thinking. This role provides support to the Trading team in all aspects of the business to maximize value for Shell.

What’s the role?

The main role of the Middle Distillates Trading Analyst is to provide first class proprietary research for the Middle Distillates team to enhance the team’s ability to generate profit in both physical and derivative trading activities. This will be done through gaining in-depth knowledge of the regional and global markets to deliver fact-based insights into the current near term as well as future behaviors and developments of the global refining, crude oil, and finished product markets.

The Middle Distillates Trading Analyst will be accountable for:

  • Enhancing and maintaining the regional proprietary Supply & Demand (S&D) model

  • Proactively engaging and main focal point with Shell Trading Market Analysis for building and feeding into our wider effort to enhance our cross-book analytics to help capture and monetize insights from information flow and developing advanced analytics.

  • Perform up to date analysis of competitive landscape (e.g., ship tracking, tender activities, maintenance tracking, technical analysis of commodity markets, margin forecasts, specific country analysis, etc.).

  • Proactively investigate and gather information from numerous internal and external sources to help understand and predict market trends, activities, and forecasts that build confidence in our modeling and help traders with forming trading strategies.

  • Monitor and communicate changes that can impact the balance in our S&D model, including country spec changes.

  • Develop and update our weekly Trading slide pack to update Traders on the most relevant market updates.

  • Finding and exploring ways to improve our analytics, including increasing use of data scraping and machine learning tools.

  • Network with other analysts and providers of useful information within the oil industry

  • Provide support to the Trading team primarily focused on Trading Analytics and may also include exposure/P&L analysis, data entry, and other Trading support activities.

What we need from you

  • High capacity to manage and enjoy the capturing and real time analysis of a large amount of constantly changing data.

  • This role requires work outside of normal office hours due to the dictates of a global business.
