Job Title: Mechanical Technician

Job Description

The Setup Mechanic sets up, troubleshoots, and performs preventative maintenance on contact heat and preheat thermoforming machines and support equipment, including but not limited to case tapes, Big the person, and Yushin stackers. The Setup Mechanic may also be required to operate machinery when needed.

Responsibilities

  • Install tooling and perform set-ups, corrective, and preventative maintenance on thermoforming machines and auxiliary equipment, such as grinders, vacuum pumps, motors, gear boxes, and hoists.

  • Conduct mechanical, pneumatic, and electrical troubleshooting.

  • Perform root cause analysis to identify causes of defects and troubleshoot problems.

  • Identify, retrieve, and replace machine components from the stockroom; create and fulfill orders via a cloud-based parts management system.

  • Escalate issues to a setup technician, recognizing the source and scope of problems and ensuring effective communication.

  • Comply with EH&S Policy and applicable regulatory and company EH&S rules.

  • Report unsafe conditions or practices to supervision to ensure prompt resolution of potential hazards.

  • Attend scheduled EH&S training programs.

  • Actively support the organization’s efforts to meet or exceed EH&S goals and plans.

  • Recommend improved EH&S practices.

  • Maintain regular and consistent attendance.

  • Follow product safety (Safe Quality Food, a.k.a. SQF) and quality standards.

  • Practice safe work habits and follow general safety procedures, such as proper lifting and bending, ergonomics, proper use of equipment, and use of personal protection equipment (PPE).

  • Ensure lockout procedures are followed any time the equipment is being cleaned or maintained.

Essential Skills

  • Mechanical troubleshooting and repair skills.

  • Experience with hydraulics and pneumatics.

  • Preventative maintenance knowledge.

  • Ability to read and understand written documents, such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.

  • Logical reasoning skills to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, and diagram forms and troubleshoot problems.

  • Mathematical skills to add, subtract, multiply, divide, and calculate decimals and fractions, including the use of the metric system.

  • Technical skills to use calipers, tape measure, protractors, pressure gauges, and temperature thermocouples.

  • Technological proficiency to use a cloud-based parts management system (NexGen) to create and execute work orders.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • High school diploma or general equivalency degree (GED).

  • Vocational technical community college, or formal military mechanical and/or technical training is a plus.

  • Previous mechanical or electrical experience is preferred.

  • Experience with thermoforming, extrusion machinery, or packaging equipment is highly desired.

Work Environment

Work in a dynamic environment with contact heat and preheat thermoforming machines and support equipment. The role may require operating machinery and adhering to safety standards, including the use of personal protective equipment (PPE). Regular EH&S training and adherence to product safety and quality standards are essential components of the work environment.

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Shelton, Connecticut.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $27.75 - $28.50/hr.
