Citigroup SVP, Credit Risk Management Services Team Head, ICM in Shanghai, China

Credit Risk Management Services (CRMS) serves as a critical component of our First Line of defense for wholesale and counterparty credit risk management that is part of Institutional Credit Management (ICM). Key responsibilities of ICM include credit analysis and underwriting, transaction capture and documentation, risk identification, measurement, monitoring and management, administration, and stress testing.

CRMS works through the challenges of the Wholesale Credit Risk Lending processes with the aim of transforming the credit risk process flows including but not limited to credit facility management, legal documentation, collaterals and risk reporting. Importantly, CRMS will coordinate with credit management groups across Corporate Banking and Commercial Banking businesses to ensure full alignment on business and regulatory goals, as well as consistency and best practices where appropriate. Our mandate is to create a world class, end-to-end wholesale credit management platform. The Country Lead or Group Manager is expected to bring in fresh thoughts and newer perspectives to drive the transformation agenda.

Responsibilities:

  • Manage a team of 10+ CRMS Risk Operations Analysts in China

  • Legal Documentation controls: review for completeness and ensuring retention in accordance with laws and internal risk policies.

  • Controls over the set-up and management of credit facilities in line with the credit policy and approval conditions.

  • Collateral Process Management: recording, monitoring and reporting of collateral provided by the obligor against the credit sanctioned

  • Provide support in handling and reporting data elements to meet regulatory requirements.

  • Drive business process transformation and deliver tangible results in terms of efficiencies and strong controls.

  • Effective stakeholder engagement across multiple business verticals in both Corporate Banking and Commercial Banking.

  • Design and implement technology including testing and rollout.

  • Produce and provide training and support to CRMS staff and business constituents.

  • Partner with each of the Originating and Coverage business lines, Independent Risk, Operations, Legal, etc. to ensure strategic vision is enabled.

  • Ensure that quality of data, controls and processes performed meet internal policies and regulatory requirements/ expectations, via staff management.

  • Constantly improve processes, controls and efficiencies within the group and front to back across the credit lifecycle.

  • Lead projects to enhance performance and efficiency.

  • Leadership role and serve as a point of escalation relevant to remediation, systems testing or migrations.

  • Appropriately assess risk when business decisions are made, demonstrating particular consideration for the firm's reputation and safeguarding Citigroup, its clients and assets, by driving compliance with applicable laws, rules and regulations, adhering to Policy, applying sound ethical judgment regarding personal behavior, conduct and business practices, and escalating, managing and reporting control issues with transparency.

Qualifications:

  • 10+ years of experience

  • Knowledge of BFSI (Banking & Financial Services Industry) sector

  • Working knowledge of risk management concepts

  • Individual must demonstrate strong leadership skills and experience in managing teams that work closely with stakeholders across regions

  • Individual must have excellent communication, organizational and interpersonal skills

  • Individual must work well under tight deadlines, manage priorities, and complete assigned tasks with minimal management follow up

  • Candidate has quantitative skills with a high proficiency with Excel and other Microsoft based programs

  • Tableau or visualization tool familiarity

  • Keen attention to detail

  • Developed analytical and problem-solving abilities

  • Client relationship and solution skills

Education:

  • Bachelor's/University degree, Master's degree preferred

  • Professional qualification in Finance, Accounting, Business related field or an MBA will be an added advantage

  • Experience in management/ team lead capacity, building and developing teams within a large global team supporting wholesale lending at large financial Institution

  • Strong knowledge of wholesale loan (syndicated / bilateral) and credit products, including an understanding of legal loan documentation, loan/ funding mechanics, deal structure, funds flows, etc.

  • Proven ability to collaborate with team members, Senior management and other business constituents in a steering capacity

  • Critical decision-making capabilities including the ability to identify, escalate, and propose solutions to problems

  • Ability to multi-task through the practice of strong organizational and time management skills with experience in continuously following-up with various stakeholders

  • Comprehensive understanding and awareness of appropriate corporate and regulatory policies in relation to Lending and Credit

  • Deep knowledge of operational processes supporting Wholesale lending

  • Focus on achieving/ exceeding key operating standards within a KPI/ metrics driven culture

  • Ability to work in an environment where priorities are frequently changing
