Supplier Development Engineer

Purpose:

Caterpillar today provides complete Solutions (generator and upfitted sound attenuated enclosures) from two in-house locations worldwide. Supporting Customers from concept design, manufacture and distribution. We are building on the success of this footprint to support our customer needs across a broader Worldwide geography.

The purpose of Caterpillar Power Solutions network is to provide the Supplier management and integration in region. The Caterpillar Power Solutions Network team’ s purpose is to develop and manage the network of 3rd party Suppliers across sub regions.

What You Will Do:

  • Ensuring the quality of supplies by conducting tests and assessments on incoming supplies to identify any quality issues; Developing supplier inspection, testing, and evaluation mechanism.

  • Generating reports on supplier quality, by monitoring their defect rates and areas that can lead to potential flaws; Guiding suppliers to reduce these defect rates.

  • Researching the potential vendors, assessing their manufacturing environment, practices, and procedures; Conducting supplier quality control audits to ensure compliance with organizational and federal policies and standards.

  • Supporting suppliers in improving their performance through process enhancements, implementing process controls, and developing quality assurance plans.

  • Developing and Managing Packaging Solutions Suppliers:

  • Own the Quality relationship with the Supplier

  • Supplier audit during Supplier Selection process

  • Quality process development & maintenance

  • Integration with existing Caterpillar processes

  • Develop competitive solutions to support Sales and Customer facing teams

  • Supplier management and regular technical reviews at supplier site

  • Manage key performance indicators

  • Manage Pre despatch inspections and documentation

  • Work on the warranty process

  • Develop and own the Supplier input/interface on the concept through to Sales quotation

  • Ensure a seamless concept and quotation process for the end Customer, working with Supplier and Caterpillar teams

  • Ensure suppliers have a clear understanding of Industry/Caterpillar design standards

  • Aid the development of standard processes and tools that can be replicated with peers and the network, focused on Commercial solutions and all costs associated with the extended supply chain to achieve Caterpillar specifications

Skill Descriptors

Problem Solving:

Knowledge of approaches, tools, techniques for recognizing, anticipating, and resolving organizational, operational or process problems; ability to apply knowledge of problem solving appropriately to diverse situations.

Manufacturing Standards, Procedures and Policies:

Knowledge of organizational standards, procedures and policies in manufacturing activities; ability to plan, guide, and monitor manufacturing processes for compliance.

Supplier Evaluations and Certification:

Knowledge of supplier evaluations and certification; ability to identify the methods, tools and documentation for evaluating, selecting and certifying vendors, suppliers and partners.

Required qualifications or equivalent experience:

  • Essential:

  • Capability in supplier Development. This role will require the successful candidate to develop and establish quality standards and ways of doing business using a third-party network.

  • Good at creating relationships across multi-functional teams in multiple locations.

  • Purchasing and Supplier Management experience.

  • Experience in the Electric Power Industry.

  • Proficiency in English language both written and verbal is essential.

  • Desired:

  • Design and development experience in Solutions (Diesel/Gas generators and/or upfitted sound attenuated enclosures).

  • Engineering experience in the Electric Power Industry.

  • Proven negotiation experience.

  • Project management experience.

  • Education in Engineering/Science or extensive equivalent experience.

  • Knowledge on logistics and taxation

  • Testing of Gensets/Packages

Additional Info:

This role requires about 50% travelling within Southeast Asia.
