Bloomberg Bloomberg Intelligence – China Market Specialist (Consumer) in Shanghai, China

Bloomberg Intelligence ("BI"), acting in the name of Bloomberg L.P., conducts in-depth research on industries that analyzes broader market trends, regulatory changes, and economic factors that can impact companies within the related sector (s). We analyze unique attributes of businesses within each industry, their competitive landscape and how varying business strategies and successes can translate into financial results ahead. Our analysts also research the technology, regulation, litigation, and economies that will shape the environment for these companies and the related industry impact.

BI research is a combination of written analysis accompanied by interactive charting and analytics created from company reported data as well as industry and government data. Analysts review, check and curate this data into comprehensive and logically arranged dashboards to support their own research and to provide Bloomberg Terminal users a platform to view and analyze the data as well.

We are seeking a highly skilled China market specialist to support publishing analysts in Hong Kong, Singapore and other offices and align research outputs with their reporting needs and publication timelines. You are expected to provide internal support to drive in-depth consumer research, providing strategic insights on market trends, regulatory changes, and economic factors that impact consumer behavior and spending patterns in mainland China. The ideal candidate will possess a deep understanding of China’s consumer landscape, combining analytical expertise with a forward-looking approach to identify emerging shifts and evolving market dynamics.

A key responsibility and evaluation criteria of this role is mentoring and growing research talents within the group, ensuring the successful rollout of high-quality, company-specific consumer research by these analysts.

We'll trust you to:

  • Help publishing analysts to produce internal reports on China’s consumption trends covering key industries, demographics, retail trends, and digital transformation ensuring that research insights are structured, clear, and directly usable

  • Data-driven insights on consumer behavior trends, spending patterns, and lifestyle shifts, analyzing their impact on businesses and how they are re-shaping the industries

  • Track evolving changes in regulatory policies, economic conditions, and trade shifts that influence business sentiment and market opportunities

  • Provide insights on brand strategies, competitive positioning, and market entry tactics for businesses operating in China

  • Work closely with global teams to contextualize China’s consumer market insights within broader regional and global developments

  • Overlook the initiation of 30 consumer stocks within CSI300 by senior associates based in Hong Kong and Singapore

  • Coach and mentor junior research talents, ensuring they develop strong expertise in consumer research methodologies, data analysis, and market interpretation

  • Oversee the development of company-specific research projects led by junior talents, ensuring analytical depth, accuracy, and strategic relevance

  • Develop standardized templates, executive summaries, and streamlined data presentations to enhance the accessibility of findings

  • Conduct training sessions and knowledge-sharing workshops to foster a strong research culture within the team

  • Support the marketing of BI analyses and findings to senior executives, clients, and business leaders, translating complex consumer insights into research

  • Engage with industry experts, policymakers, and key stakeholders to stay ahead of market trends

  • Attend financials industry conferences, investment forums, market research summits and company meetings to improve visibility and credibility

You'll need to have:

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience

  • Demonstrated ability to provide industry insights and analytical skills, with high attention to detail

  • Proficiency in excel including experience managing large datasets and models

  • 2-5 years of financial market research experience

  • Experience in writing primary research as well as excellent verbal communication and presentation skills

  • An understanding of advanced concepts, practices and procedures of finance/accounting

  • Experience interpreting financial statements and performing quantitative financial analysis

  • Strong organization and multi-tasking skills, an ability to meet deadlines, logically tackle problems and set priorities

  • A commitment to enhancing and building products

  • Proficiency in both written and spoken business-level Chinese/Mandarin and English

  • Demonstrated continuous career growth within an organization

We'd love to see:

  • CFA designation or Master's degree in Business, Finance or Accounting

  • Proven understanding of Financial Macro Development and knowledge of Python, SQL or VBA is beneficial
