Job Summary The eligible register developed from this posting may be used to fill future FT and PT vacancies within this classification. Senior Tax Specialist: Performs a variety of responsible, skilled, complex, and highly technical tasks in support of accurate calculation, collection, and distribution of property tax revenues, maintaining accurate assessment and taxation records, preparing periodic reports, and assisting with state audits. Principal Tax Specialist: Performs work of considerable difficulty in directing and participating in complex, and highly technical tasks in support of accurate calculation, collection, and distribution of property tax revenues, maintaining accurate assessment and taxation records, preparing periodic reports, and assisting with state audits. Work requires the application of extensive specialized knowledge and experience and the exercise of independent decision making in the solution of highly complex tax calculations. Anticipated Hiring Range: Senior Tax Specialist $67,748 - $79,703 Principal Tax Specialist - $79,226 - $93,207 Position will be filled as either a Senior or Principal Tax Specialist depending on the qualifications of the finalist.* Essential Duties What are some of the responsibilities? Calculate, proof, and certifies tax rates and capacities for proposed and final tax statements. Coordinate, oversee, and reconcile the distribution of taxes, fees, and various other collections, reconciling figures with the General Ledger for multi-year distribution. Audit, process, and proof certified levies for proposed and final taxes. Advises local taxing authorities regarding statutory requirements. Senior Tax Specialist Job Description Principal Tax Specialist Job Description Minimum Qualifications Senior Tax Specialist: Requires equivalency of an Associate's degree in accounting, finance, or related field AND three years' experience with property tax administration and government accounting. Principal Tax Specialist: Requires equivalency of a Bachelor's Degree in accounting, Finance, or related field AND three years' experience with property tax administration including settlement and calculation government accounting. Preferred: County auditor, treasurer, or assessor office experience Structured Query Language (SQL) or data model training experience Must obtain and remain current with the MN DOR Property Tax Calculation Certification, complete Assessment Laws and Procedures course through MAAO, complete Auditor-Treasurer Course through Minnesota Department of Revenue and attend Legal Description workshop within one year of hire or as soon as offered. The employee shall provide a reliable means of transportation for the performance of work responsibilities. Selection Process Selection for this position will be based on a minimum qualifications screening and rating of training and experience. Top candidates will be forwarded to the hiring manager or supervisor for consideration for interview and/or additional assessments.
