Blue Origin LLC Thermal Engineer III - New Glenn in Seattle, Washington

This role supports the development and operations of New Glenn, a single-configuration heavy-lift launch vehicle capable of routinely carrying people and payloads to Earth's orbit and beyond. Engineered with a reusable first stage and a seven-meter payload fairing, New Glenn is building the road to space. As part of a small, hard-working, and accomplished team of experts, you will support all aspects of thermal/fluids design for various spaceflight systems. You will share in the team's impact on all aspects of the systems through their entire lifetime from early conceptual design and configuration through flight operations and sustaining engineering. The responsibilities of this position will be analysis intensive, primarily supporting the development and verification of vehicle-level thermal/fluid models and external loads. This position will directly impact the history of space exploration and will require your dedication and detailed attention towards safe and repeatable spaceflight. Responsibilities include but are not limited to: Thermal analysis of the launch vehicle and its components to develop and verify design/qualification envelopes Integration of third-party thermal models into Blue Origin vehicle models Development of thermal loads from first principles, literature, and experiment Implementation of aero thermal, plume, and other convective heating environments during all phases of flight Trade studies relating to subsystem design, architecture, and operation Configuration development, detailed design, and verification activities Documentation and maintenance of analysis inputs, models, and results in report and databooks Minimum Qualifications: Minimum of BS degree in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering 5+ years of proven track record in the fields of fluids, thermal, or thermodynamics Experience with one or more fluid or thermal modeling tools is required (e.g., ANSYS Workbench, ANSYS Classic, SINDA/FLUINT, Thermal Desktop, etc.). Excellent oral, written, interpersonal, customer relation skills, and presentation skills. Ability to earn trust, maintain positive and professional relationships, and contribute to a culture of inclusion Must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum. Preferred Qualifications: Extensive experience with logic-heavy Thermal Desktop models Knowledge of MATLAB, Python, C#, and/or Fortran Familiarity with knowledge capture systems, integrated engineering tools and rapid development processes Knowledge in the use of 3D CAD tools (CREO is preferred Compensation Range for: WA applicants is $120,060.00-$168,084.00 Other site ranges may differ Applications will be accepted on an ongoing basis until the requisition is closed.
