Port of Seattle Technical Designer – Signage & Wayfinding in Seattle, Washington

As the Technical Designer of Signage and Wayfinding, you will be responsible for design development and implementation of technical and production ready signage designs focused on wayfinding, regulatory, digital media, and technical designs at the direction of the Signage and Wayfinding Manager.

  • You will be the subject matter expert and lead designer for signage and wayfinding design discipline.

  • You will monitor and interpret changes in technology, regulations, and guidance related to digital signage codes and evaluate impact to the Port.

  • You will perform graphic, environmental, digital, and technical design services for internal and external department stakeholders with focus on developing and maintaining a Skytrax five-star rating customer focused signage system for wayfinding, informational, regulatory, and digital communications.

  • You will develop production and distribution ready artwork at direction of Signage Specialists and Signage and Wayfinding Manager.

  • You will collaborate with stakeholders to understand message needs, develop visual concepts, and designs according to requested specifications, revise designs based on feedback, and request approvals as appropriate.

  • You will act as lead technical designer tasked with ongoing maintenance of Signage and Wayfinding Standards for Facilities and Infrastructure.

  • You will work in coordination with Signage Specialist - Digital Systems to manage content for digital signage throughout all airport properties using specialized content management platform.

  • You will perform ongoing maintenance of digital asset file organization, as-build document collection, communication, processes, and procedure.

  • You will monitor long and short-term project plans, including setting targets for milestones and ensuring adherence to deadlines.

  • You will direct consultants and vendors on design guidelines, file usage and adherence to standards and communicate regularly with the team, department, and organization, to provide information and input on goals, priorities, projects, and plans.

Who you are:

  • Experienced – You have four (4) years of experience in architecture, environmental graphics, or signage planning, design, or fabrication.

  • Educated – You possess a High School Diploma or equivalent.

  • Desired – We hope you have a Bachelor’s Degree in environmental graphic design, art, architecture, industrial design, project management or communications, related to 3D design field.

  • Technically Skilled – You have advanced technical proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite (Illustrator, Photoshop and InDesign and After Effects) Populo and Intersystem.

  • Excellent Communicator – You have effective interpersonal, verbal, written, and active listening communication skills. You write concise and organized and provide clear communications to internal and external customers.

  • Problem Solver – You have effective problem-solving skills that help parse data and information to develop creative, rational solutions.

  • Adaptable – You work effectively in situations involving uncertainty or lack of information and response flexibly to change. You have the ability to manage multiple moderately complex project simultaneously.

What else you need to know:

  • Work Schedule – Your normal work schedule will be Monday – Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. (40 hours per week). Slightly more flexible start and end times are available in this role.

  • Work Environment - This work will take place in a hybrid/in-office setting at Management’s discretion.

  • Grade Review – The pay range and grade for non-represented positions are under review and subject to change as part of the Port’s work to implement a new pay program. This review is intended to ensure that positions are aligned with the new program that will be implemented in early 2024.

  • Washington State Residency Requirement – Employees must establish a residence in Washington state within 30 days of their first day of employment and must maintain a residence in Washington State during their employment with the Port of Seattle. If a position is eligible to telework, work performed while teleworking must be performed in Washington State.

  • Security Requirements – As the successful candidate, you must pass a Transportation Security Administration (TSA) background check as well as a criminal history background check with the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI). Your employment will be contingent upon obtaining a Port of Seattle ID badge upon clearance.
