Amazon Systems Development Engineer, Enterprise Infrastructure Services in Seattle, Washington

We have exciting things going on in the Amazon Enterprise Engineering organization, and we’re looking for a Systems Development Engineer that is ready to join the team and help us innovate on behalf of our customers.

Enterprise Infrastructure Services - LiveCDN offers a caching service for Amazon's internal Livestreaming service. It allows Amazon employees to engage with remote audiences, leaders, and colleagues through live streams or recorded videos, accessible in real-time on both mobile devices and laptops. The team is dedicated to providing a scalable and easily accessible live streaming experience to users, regardless of their geographical location or the device they are using.

To solve this complex problem in an optimized way we leverage AWS technologies to deliver content with low-latency and high-availablilty to customers, systems, and mobile devices across Amazon.

In pursuit of that mission, we are looking for an experienced System Development Engineer to manage our on prem infrastructure and own automating operational and business practices. This will include identifying and resolving issues, automating and improving repetitive processes, and working closely with the development team. You will drive prioritization of operational issues, and drive automation design and scaling requirements to support the service. Primary responsibilities include troubleshooting, diagnosing and fixing operational issues, developing monitoring solutions, performing infrastructure maintenance and configuration, automating repetitive manual processes, developing tooling for infrastructure requirements, updating, tracking and resolving technical challenges. Responsibilities also include working alongside development, updating/enhancing our current software, automation of support processes and documentation of our systems. You will work with Senior and Principal Engineers and have the opportunity to hire and mentor junior engineers.

Basic Qualifications

  • 3+ years of programming with at least one modern language such as C++, C#, Java, Python, Golang, PowerShell, Ruby experience

  • 4+ years of non-internship professional software development experience

  • 2+ years of designing or architecting (design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and existing systems experience

  • 4+ years of systems development in an IT or data center environment experience

  • 4+ years of deploying and operating in a Linux/Unix environment experience

  • 2+ years of systems design, software development, operations, automation, and process improvement experience

  • Knowledge of at least one modern programming language such as C, C++, Java, or Perl

  • Experience leading the design, build and deployment of complex and performant (reliable and scalable) software solutions in production

Preferred Qualifications

  • 1+ years of development/programming/scripting language (Python/Java/Bash/Perl) experience

  • Knowledge of engineering practices and patterns for the full software/hardware/networks development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, certification, and livesite operations

  • Experience taking a leading role in building complex software or computing infrastructure that has been successfully delivered to customers

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $121,000/year in our lowest geographic market up to $235,200/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company.
