Amazon Sr. UX Designer, Discovery Technology, Amazon in Seattle, Washington

Discovery Technology's mission is to help customers discover new categories, products, great gifts, and Prime benefits relevant to them. We connect customers with products relevant to a season, occasion, or mission (e.g., Back to School, Certified Black-Owned Businesses), that are trending, or are great value (Everyday Essentials). Our organization is responsible for cross-channel marketing and creative efforts for the North America Stores, the Prime membership program in the US, and the worldwide gifting experience.

Key job responsibilities

  • Take responsibility for the overall end-to-end user experience from the big picture to UI layout specifics

  • Envision and bring to life intuitive, scalable, and engaging interactions and experiences through innovative interaction patterns

  • Quickly and thoroughly creating user flows, wireframes, visual designs, and prototypes to effectively conceptualize and communicate detailed interaction behaviors that support decision making and development

  • Drive the evolution of creative and holistic thinking across diverse product releases and platforms

  • Implement marketing content and merchandize at scale, helping customers discover Amazon’s broad selection in Amazon’s online store

  • Elevate the look and feel of the store and campaigns to drive higher customer engagement

  • Effectively advocating and designing for the customer through objective data such as market analysis, customer insights, technical constraints/opportunities, and business insights

  • Partnering closely with business and development teams to plan and balance immediate requirements with long-term, scalable solutions

  • Assessing and optimizing the effectiveness of new and existing features by proactively planning, performing, and advocating validation techniques like usability testing, user research, and interpreting analytical data

  • Presenting design work to UX partners, cross-disciplinary teams, and executive leaders

A day in the life

The Senior UX Designer will collaborate with product and engineering stakeholders on an everyday basis. They will model behavior that exemplifies Amazon Leadership Principles in their team and raises the design bar for the organization. They will collaborate with their peers to connect individual features to a holistic shopping experience. This designer will create and drive adoption of design guidelines, mechanisms, reusable components, best practices, process and tools. The designer must also regularly share design work, including peer reviews, stakeholder reviews, and senior leader reviews.

Basic Qualifications

  • 8+ years of design experience

  • Have an available online portfolio

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience as a user experience designer, product designer, interaction designer, information architect, or similar role

  • Experience in a range of design approaches, methods, and tools that you use to plan and estimate complex projects

  • Able to take ambiguous design problems and work with stakeholders and user research insights to craft design solutions grounded in customer needs and business goals

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $113,000/year in our lowest geographic market up to $211,600/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company. Dependent on the position offered, equity, sign-on payments, and other forms of compensation may be provided as part of a total compensation package, in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits.
