Amazon Sr. System Development Engineer, Global Robotics Delivery in Seattle, Washington

We do this by building automated solutions to handle things that technology does well, while relying on people to handle things that humans do well. We are constantly innovating in the ways we are automating and accelerating the delivery of products and packages which includes building custom hardware and applying robotics, autonomy, supply chain optimization, machine learning, manipulation, image processing, and real-time data processing using distributed systems.

The Tech Transformation (TfX) group within the Global Robotics Delivery organization technically advises and leads innovative solutions that ensure cutting edge deployment capabilities that deliver consistent year over year resource efficiency. We are seeking an experienced Systems Development Engineer to design, build, and maintain a cloud platform that streamlines the manipulation of large-scale point cloud data. You will drive the system architecture, spearhead best practices that enable a quality product, and help coach and develop junior engineers. In addition, you will work closely with Building Information Modeling (BIM) engineers to deploy software to automate manual processes.

Key job responsibilities

• Build and maintain a cloud solution for storing and processing large-scale point cloud datasets (1TB+)

• Read technical whitepapers and apply the latest research findings to solve complex problems effectively

• Leverage ML and Generative AI tools, such as Amazon SageMaker, Amazon Bedrock, and Amazon Code Whisperer and other technologies to automate existing processes

• Take ownership of defining requirements, creating solution designs, implementing code to specifications, and supporting solutions with a high level of autonomy

• Ability to travel domestically up to 25%

Basic Qualifications

  • 4+ years of non-internship professional software development experience

  • 2+ years of designing or architecting (design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and existing systems experience

  • 2+ years of systems design, software development, operations, automation, and process improvement experience

  • Experience writing technical documents, project plans and progress reports to leadership and to stakeholders

  • Experience in mentoring, leading, or managing more junior engineers

  • 3+ years of development/programming/scripting language (Python/Java/Bash/Perl) experience

Preferred Qualifications

  • Knowledge of engineering practices and patterns for the full software/hardware/networks development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, certification, and livesite operations

  • Experience taking a leading role in building complex software or computing infrastructure that has been successfully delivered to customers

  • Experience in project or product management

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $121,000/year in our lowest geographic market up to $235,200/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company.
