As a Mainframe Specialist Solutions Architect at AWS, you’ll build technical relationships with customers of all sizes and develop solutions to accelerate their cloud migration journey. You will operate as their trusted advisor, ensuring they get the most out of the cloud at every stage of their journey. You will engage with senior customer leaders and technical stakeholders to help them achieve increased agility and significant business value by advising and defining their migration approach to the cloud.

You’ll manage the overall technical relationship between AWS and our customers, making recommendations on security, cost, performance, reliability, optimization, and operational efficiency to accelerate their large scale Migration projects.

Internally, you will be the voice of the customer, sharing their needs and wants to inform the roadmap of AWS features. Externally, the Mainframe Migration Specialist Solutions Architect works with large enterprises, helping them effectively lead their migration readiness assessment and migration and modernization strategy.

Key job responsibilities

In this role, your creativity will link technology to tangible solutions, with the opportunity to define cloud-native reference architectures for a variety of use cases.

You will participate in the creation and sharing of best practices, technical content, and new reference architectures (e.g. white papers, code samples, blog posts) and evangelize and educate about AWS technology (e.g. through workshops, user groups, meetups, public speaking, online videos or conferences).

This role is within the Worldwide Specialist Organization (WWSO), and you would be working with Business Development, Professional Services, and our Partner teams to ensure successful management of customer progression.

A day in the life

As the Mainframe Modernization Solution Architect within Amazon Web Services (AWS), you will have the opportunity to deliver on our strategy to help customers on these mission critical workloads. You will be responsible for successfully engaging customers on Mainframe Migration, including: Driving Mainframe Modernization discussions with customers, providing technical thought leadership, building the solutions architecture, migration planning, POC scoping, building the technical assets and reference architectures. By establishing and growing business and technical relationships, and managing the day-to-day interactions with these stakeholders, you will be responsible for enabling the teams internally and externally to drive overall end customer adoption.

Basic Qualifications

  • 2+ years of design, implementation, or consulting in applications and infrastructures experience

  • 4+ years of specific technology domain areas (e.g. software development, cloud computing, systems engineering, infrastructure, security, networking, data & analytics) experience

  • 10+ years of IT development or implementation/consulting in the software or Internet industries experience

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working within software development or Internet-related industries

  • Experience migrating or transforming legacy customer solutions to the cloud

  • Experience working with AWS technologies from a dev/ops perspective

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $118,200/year in our lowest geographic market up to $204,300/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company. Dependent on the position offered, equity, sign-on payments, and other forms of compensation may be provided as part of a total compensation package, in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits.
