Amazon Senior Integration Systems Development Engineer, Corporate Development in Seattle, Washington

Description

Corporate Development is seeking an inventive engineer to relentlessly improve the integration of acquired engineering teams, products, and services across Amazon and AWS. Systems Development Engineers (SysDEs) on our integration team contribute to key stages in the mergers and acquisitions (M&A) process to accelerate adoption and maximize the benefits of Amazon’s technology delivery capabilities and developer operations tooling. Acquired engineering teams enter Amazon leveraging a diverse set of programming languages and technical delivery frameworks: the SysDE works across these varied organizations and technology footprints in rapid and impactful engagements.

You will obsess over and innovate in development of long-term solutions and architectures that enable our newest engineers through improved safety, agility, and automation. You will use data, developer anecdotes, and your own technical/business judgement to expedite decision making, influence technical or business trade-offs, and contribute to the most complex/ambiguous parts of acquisition project design/implementation. Your actions will be felt by Amazon and AWS customers around the world across a broad range of product and service experiences.

You will deliver value by guiding acquired teams through their adoption of Amazon’s best practices and influencing decisions to result in resilient systems meeting Amazon’s Operational Excellence bar. This is achieved both through educating and active participation in implementation. Merger and acquisition events result in significant change for new engineering teams. Your efforts will demonstrate empathy critically necessary to enable these individuals to successfully navigate change and thrive in the peculiar Amazon culture.

Key job responsibilities

The Corporate Development Integration (CDI) SysDEs will:

  • Become the trusted advisor of newly acquired engineering leaders to influence integration approaches for acquired development tools and processes.

  • Dive deep with “hands on keyboard” to lead acquired engineers through adoption of the breadth of Amazon tools and process.

  • Mentor acquired engineers on how to thrive in an Amazon engineering culture.

  • Maintain active participation in the Amazon developer community and seek out opportunities to learn the latest in builder and other operational tool offerings.

  • Develop mechanisms and custom tools to support a virtuous cycle for M&A projects, enabling consistently high quality project results at scale.

Basic Qualifications

  • 3+ years of programming with at least one modern language such as C++, C#, Java, Python, Golang, PowerShell, Ruby experience

  • 4+ years of non-internship professional software development experience

  • 2+ years of designing or architecting (design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and existing systems experience

  • 4+ years of deploying and operating in a Linux/Unix environment experience

  • 2+ years of systems design, software development, operations, automation, and process improvement experience

  • Experience leading the design, build and deployment of complex and performant (reliable and scalable) software solutions in production

Preferred Qualifications

  • 1+ years of development/programming/scripting language (Python/Java/Bash/Perl) experience

  • Knowledge of engineering practices and patterns for the full software/hardware/networks development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, certification, and livesite operations

  • Experience taking a leading role in building complex software or computing infrastructure that has been successfully delivered to customers

  • Experience working as a software engineer at an Amazon subsidiary, and/or experience integrating software development from an acquisition

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $121,000/year in our lowest geographic market up to $235,200/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company.
